For @st-loveconfessions Make Something May I’m sharing my new obsession, customising Build-a-Bears as Stranger Things characters. These are my favourites so far: Eddie, Finale Eddie and Will the Wise still have some work left to do but are almost done! 😃

I’m considering starting a sideblog for all of my weird merch finds and peculiar crafting (maybe also kitten updates??), but I’m terrified that it’s actually absolutely cringe and nobody will want to see it. Let me know if you would!!

Make stickers

Here’s a cute little YouTube tutorial for making your own stickers at home - no matter if you want to print or hand-draw your designs.

Why not make some stickers that remind you of your favorite moots (think inside jokes or nicknames you have, or maybe their favorite character or something that reminds you of their fanfic) and send them over via post? That way, they can have something that reminds them of you to stick on their laptop!

Make a playlist

One great way to create something for a fic that you love, even if you don't have an artistic streak, is to make a playlist. No matter if it's 3 songs or 20, writers will generally be thrilled to hear you're thinking about their work enough to associate music with it, and stoked to find out about your picks.

If you wanna go extra fancy and add a visual, covers are easy to design in Canva, for example.

You may be familiar with inspirational quotes lettered on canvas or cardboard, but why not give it a fandom twist?

Here's a short and simple tutorial to help you get started. Instead of using the paper bleeding technique, you could go crazy with watercolors or whatever you have on hand. Add your favorite quote from canon or a romantic, silly or smutty line from your favorite fic. (Bonus points for telling the author - it'll make their day.)

And voilà - fandom wall art.

It's May! Time to get crafting for mother's and father's day, and to finally get your garden ready for the outdoor season if you haven't yet!

In keeping with this, our challenge for this month is simple: Make something!

After all, much like a garden, fandom can only grow when we sow new crops.

We will share some inspiration for you throughout the month, but feel free to reblog this post and comment with ideas of your own.

Make a rec list

... or two, or twelve.

There's few bigger compliments for creators than being included in rec lists, and they're such a great way to discover awesome new artists! There's truly never enough rec lists in fandom, so why not make some more!

Rec your favorite fics, pieces of fanart, podfics (...) of all time

Make it themed and rec fanworks that made you laugh, fanworks that made you cry, fanworks that feature a certain character or trope

Make it a monthly thing and rec everything you read that month

Turn it into a tag game and ask your friends to add recs of their own in a reblog

And, of course, don't forget to tag the creators and make their day a little brighter ✨️

Make magnets

Wanna put your blorbo or favorite little meow meow on your fridge? How about this cute tutorial for glass marble magnets? All you need is clear marbles, some mod podge, magnets and glue. Make some for your moots while you're at it!

Make a blanket permission statement

What's a blanket permission statement, you may ask.

As explained here, it is "something you post in a publically-visible place (usually your AO3 profile) that tells other fan creators what you are and aren't okay with in terms of other people making fanworks based off your stuff." (The post in general is very useful and even comes with a link for building your own statement with a few clicks.

When it comes to blanket permission statements, we often see creators being hesitant to make one because they're afraid of looking presumptuous. ("Who would want to make something based on my work anyway?")

The truth is that these statements can be a huge help, not only for artists who are too shy to reach out directly, but also for creators participating in podfic challenges or similar, which often come with tight deadlines and don't leave much time for asking permission.

So if you are still on the fence, why not make one today? Maybe you'll soon be surprised with some lovely art based on your work.
