Get strapped in*

We all have our favourite, our go to, our on set saviour of a kit bag that we simply cannot live without. But we all suffer from the age old problems, straps cutting into our necks, straps breaking under the weight of one too many decanted bloods and just general back pain from straps not giving us that support.

First in Line *

Slow and steady wins the race...as the saying goes. Maybe not when it comes to prosthetic adhesives, when you are working in a fast paced environment you simply need something to stick and stick fast. Having tried and tested the new fangled Telesis 8 with many mixed results the Make-up Market place is very excited to see that our best loved Telesis Silicone Adhesive is coming in a faster paced version set to pip Telesis 8 to the prosthetic post. Although having more time to play with your edges is never a bad thing I missed the speed of Telesis 5 and cannot wait to see how Telesis 8F fares and if it can keep up to the track time of Telesis 5. 

Fingers crossed it will be racing to our shelves very soon.

Season 666* 

American Horror Story kill it (literally) every year when it comes to outstanding Hair, Make-up and Prosthetics. From perfectly period hairpieces to creepily creative clown prosthetics they really do come up with some iconic characters. Season 6 seems set to be the same with AHS sending out cryptically creepy adverts all featuring characters from classic Horror Stories, this Frankenstein one in particular caught my eye as even for a poster the AHS Make-up and Prosthetics team create something phenomenal! I cant wait to see what this season has in store.

Get it Off *

De Rig..the make-up artists most dreaded word and the actors favourite. Removing prosthetic glue, wig glue, skin illustrator, blood and much more can become a complete chore without the correct remover. There are as many removers as there are glues and it is often that you find yourself using three or four to get that glue gone. Well, not anymore..Bluebird are fast becoming one of my favourite brands with their palettes, dirts and now glue removers. Promising a fast removal of ANY glue and promising not to harm even the most sensitive skin, perfect for prosthetics! A little bird (blue in fact) told me this could be one of the best removes on the market,

Wait little Lion-woman*

Every so often a Make-up & Prosthetics creeps up from no where and pounces on you,to amaze, astound and inspire you.  Løvekvinnen tells the story of a young girl born with hypertrichosis lanuginosa congenita, an illness which makes hairs grow over large parts of one's body.

Having watched the trailer I can honestly say I am amazed by the hair punching, each hair is so delicately placed and the overall design of the character is stunning, it is not comedic and it is not frightening it really is a spectacular Make-up and Prosthetic. 

The film itself also shows beautiful period hair and make-up, prosthetics and int he ‘Freak Show’ section of the film even more beautiful prosthetics. 

Punched to perfection, I can’t wait to see this on the big screen.

The Legend that is Emma Thompson* 

From Nanny McPhee to Harry Potter, Beauty and the Beast and now to The Legend of Barney Thomson- Emma Thompson is not a newbie when it comes to top to toe transformation Make-up & Prosthetics. Prosthetics Make-up Designer Mark Coulier and his team, including Duncan Jarman (Revenant) are also not newbies when it comes to incredible aging Make-ups, Coulier created one of my favourite old age Make-ups for The Grand Budapest Hotel (my current screensaver) and this old age is simply stunning, each line and crease perfectly placed to make Thompson look as if she has a 50 a day habit and that years of smoking damage has ravage her skin. The dried out lipstick is on point and the hands with rubbed out orange nail varnish are a homage to Dot Cotton herself.

A timeless look for an aging Make-up. As with all these make-ups, I cant wait to see them move on screen.

Someone like me?*

I love a great impersonation Make-up, from Ant & Dec’s transformation trickery to Dead Ringers  clever cover up’s a good disguise is all down to the amazing prosthetics, hair and make-up to make it 100% believable.’Rumor has it’ Adele recently took this to a whole new level by impersonating an Adele impersonator to trick a room of Adele tribute acts. Kristyan Mallette FX created the Prosthetics and Adrian Rigby applied the nose and undetectable chin on Adele and they even had to hide her hair under a wig to really add to the fakery. A beauty Makeup was applied on top finishing the ‘Adele’ look. 

A great subtle make-up that made a big impact.

Return of the Revenant* 

Dirtying Down..Sweat..Blood..Ice FX and a bear mauling attack, what more can you ask for in a film in terms of Make-up & Prosthetics? Going by the trailer ‘The Revenant’ hits every single checklist I love in a film, even Period Make-up! With promises of fights, death and a bear attack on DiCaprio I am excited to see how the Make-up & Prosthetics team have attacked the mauled flesh look both raw and healing. Out in cinemas just before Christmas ‘The Revenant’ promises to return gore and grime to our screens, I couldn’t be more excited!
