Aziraphale finally gets to savor a delicious meal after working so very hard, yet Effortlessly upstairs.
He did say he was here to help.
What he believed was that love was more than just kindness and more than just giving people the things they wanted. Love was more than the parts of it that were easy and pleasurable. Sometimes love was trying to understand. Love was trying to get beyond what was hard.
Brandon Taylor, from The Late Americans
Thing about writing Good Omens fanfiction... you have to be extremely cognizant of your usage of the word "effort."
Was it going to be an innuendo? Doesn't matter, it sure is now!
I might use this line, but boy does it come with some implications I may or may not want here! 🤣🤣🤣
“You remember our little arrangement,” the demon went on, so low Aziraphale had to make an effort to hear him.
I had forgotten that these two oft quoted lines are in the same paragraph. 😅☺️
“Many people, meeting Aziraphale for the first time, formed three impressions: that he was English, that he was intelligent, and that he was gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide. Two of these were wrong; Heaven is not in England, whatever certain poets may have thought, and angels are sexless unless they really want to make an effort. But he was intelligent. And it was an angelic intelligence which, while not being particularly higher than human intelligence, is much broader and has the advantage of having thousands of years of practice.”
