Do other arospecs have this thing...where you're doing something physical with a friend, for example walking while holding hands in public, and it's all nice and breezy but then you see people looking at you (because you're both the same gender, probably) and you suddenly feel uncomfortable because they probably think you're a couple? (I mean, really. Holding hands isnt inherently romantic, come on)

I’m aro, not arospec, so I can’t speak for others, but this sounds like 2 things: romance repulsion, which is something anyone can have, but is most common in aros/arospecs. if you don’t view smth as romantic, but someone looking at you does, it can shift your thinking temporarily, triggering that. also (in addition to or separate from repulsion) self-consciousness and the pressures of amatonormativity (and being uncomfortable with probable homophobia, no one wants to be stared at in public). I totally get it, my friends and I are very “lovey-dovey” and affectionate in our actions and words, regardless of gender or sexuality, but I personally get very uneasy if I act like that around people I don’t know, bc I don’t want to be assumed to be in a relationship. I know that’d make me immensely uncomfortable/embarrassed. from what I’ve seen, you’re describing a p common experience, so I’d say you can certainly find other arospecs w similar frustrations lol
