Her bag is hiked up on her shoulder, skirt brushing against her thighs as she walks down 66th street, phone attached to her ear. After nearly six months of living in the city, six months of fulfilling her one lifetime goal, she'd finally gotten the hang of walking home without losing her way. Together, she and Kurt had found a loft apartment that, at first, seemed a bit sketchy but soon proved to be everything she was always looking for. Her life in the city was all that she ever wanted, and while she craved to perform on a bigger stage, it was going to have to wait -- if only Kurt could see that.

The car horn takes her by surprise, phone falling to the ground before she even has the chance to move. Despite her brain screaming at her to step back, to do anything to protect herself from the inevitable impact, she's frozen in place. She hadn't even realized she'd crossed in the middle of the street, and she certainly hasn't seen the car coming.
