185- Last movie you just watched:

Malachy: Blues Brothers. Absolute classic and always a laugh. It's not that often I'm watching movies though and especially not with others, I tend to get told off for complaining that the book was better.

Luke: Micmacs. It was about time I introduced it to Frankie. That boy needs to watch better films, he really does.

Scott: Pan's Labyrinth, I needed to work on my Spanish and it seemed as good an excuse as any to rewatch it.

Alice: Lord of the Rings. I don't care if people say I've watched it too many times, it's still enjoyable.

Ava: Isn't It Romantic. My aunt decided that the main character was a lot like me with her view of romance and romcoms so sat me down to watch it. Not bad, actually, as romantic films go.

Zara: Kingsman. Eggsy reminds me of one of my mates so it's always a laugh to watch.

Richard: Hereditary. You can't beat a good horror that worms its way into your head and stays there. I never said this, but a part of me is still freaked at that damn film.

Jeremiah: Flash Gordon. It might be cheesy but it's still enjoyable.

Edward: Skyscraper. Absolutely fantastic film.

Zara: How would you know? You spent the entire thing with your eyes shut, which also means you didn't technically watch it.

Edward: I did not spend the entire film with my eyes closed... Just bits of it. There were far too many scenes of him hanging off the side of that building!

Zara: But I thought it was a fantastic film, Teddy.

Edward: You're an annoying bitch, Zara. Fine. The last film I watched in its entirety would be Hercules. Yes, the Disney version.

Zara: *is hysterical with laughter* And you're supposed to be a grown man. He's a better Hades than you though. *runs to hide before Edward can catch her*

(flower asks) iris - if you owned a shop, what would it sell ?

Malachy: Books, probably secondhand ones mostly. Old books have that special feel to them. Although in honesty, any bookshop I owned would probably end up being a little more like Aziriphale’s in Good Omens: more of an excuse to have a really big library and somewhere where people are actively discouraged from actually buying any of the books because that would just be like saying goodbye to an old friend.

News of the Demon Trap (https://follypedia.fandom.com/wiki/Demon_trap) had reached Malachy just as he clocked out onto his break and he hadn't wasted any time, just grabbed his stuff, stopped by a park for a long stick and headed for the building where it had been found. Those guarding the trap hadn't looked impressed when he'd arrived but then nobody ever did like calling for help. Demon Traps were strictly death magic however, as it took a necromancer or a reaper to free the soul trapped there without killing everyone in the area.

Malachy had dealt with the trap, had a good laugh at the message written in Tolkien's elvish on it (If you can read this you are a nerd and also probably dead), and was leaning against the wall finally enjoying his lunch when Tara arrived.

"Too late," he'd told her cheerfully, making the reaper jump and turn to face him. "Already dealt with. I even think I recognise the signature and so know who set the damn thing." Malachy offered out the box in his hand. "Pork pie?"

Richard Dryden - A friend who is one of the few people Malachy has told the complete truth to. Both only children, they consider each other like brothers these days.

Edward Anderson - Both involved with death, albeit in different ways, Malachy and Edward formed an alliance and a friendship. Malachy acknowledges that Edward is in some way his boss, and Edward goes to Malachy whenever he comes up against something he doesn’t understand, Malachy having more experience than he does. These days, they spend more time as social buddies than working buddies.

Terry Hughes (NPC) - Malachy’s assistant in the morgue. A young necromancer who Malachy took under his wing. He’s good at his job, good with his powers, and a good friend.

Malachy Flynn

Age: 158 (looks mid-thirties)

Gender: Male

Job/Role: Forensic Pathologist/Medical Examiner

Species: Necromancer

Personality: An easy-going guy, Mal can be serious when needed but prefers to have a laugh when he can. In fact, Malachy often uses humour as a way to mask his true feelings, only opening up to a very few trusted people. Not especially brave, hates violence, not at all squeamish. Doesn’t really do serious relationships, having never met anyone who convince him to settle down, but enjoys short-term flings and one-night stands. Terrible around kids. Drinks too much, partly as a way of blocking out the ghosts when he’s had enough.

Background: Born in Ireland in 1860, Malachy grew up unable to tell the difference between the living and the ghosts that surrounded him. This became worse when Malachy was 10 and his mother died, as he refused to accept her death since he could still see and interact with her. His father couldn't deal with his son claims and so left, leaving Malachy to be raised in the local orphanage. The priest took an interest in the boy, concerned by his apparent obsession with death, and it was in the church graveyard that Malachy found friends and teachers amongst the ghosts there, learning to control his powers just enough to not rouse people's suspicions even further. 

At fifteen, the fair came to town and Malachy met another necromancer for the first time, Hilda, one who used her powers to make money as a psychic. She refused his first request to become her assistant, preferring to travel alone, but eventually she agreed, after an argument and heated emotions led to several ghosts being thrown back into their corpses. Over the next few years Mal learnt everything there was to know about his powers, and Hilda became a surrogate mother to the young man, to the point that she left him all of her belongings when she died of Cholera nearly two decades later.

Amongst these belongings was a ring, one that Malachy had never seen Hilda take off, and a letter explaining its use. She wasn't sure how it worked, but it halted death and had kept her alive for over a century. You could still die, whether from illness or from serious injury, but so long as you wore the ring you wouldn't age. Tempted by the idea of immortality, Malachy put the ring on.

To start off he took over Hilda's role as psychic in the fair they were currently travelling with, enjoying his time moving from group to group every few years so no-one ever got suspicious at the fact he wasn't aging. Eventually he got bored with the job however. By this point he was in England and Malachy got himself a job first at a funeral home, then went into training as a forensic pathologist. Ever since he's worked at hospital after hospital, moving on every ten to fifteen years to keep from arousing suspicion, faking papers every time he builds a new life.
