Malayan sun bears (Helarcris malayanus) are the smallest of the eight species of bear. It is an opportunistic omnivore that will mainly eat fruit and insects though will occasionally eat small rodents, birds and lizards. Unlike other bears it does not hibernate as food is available all year round. The range of these magnificent bears is not well documented and either historically or presently ranges throughout south-east Asia and the Malayan peninsula in the tropical forests. The sun bear is classed as vulnerable am listed on appendix I of CITES (Convention on the International Trade of Endangered Species). The main threat to sun bears is habitat loss due to farming and plan oil plantations. #animalsofinstagram #bearsofinstagram #bear #sunbear #malayansunbear #conservation #vulenerable #cites #citesappendix1 #fauna #faunaandflora https://www.instagram.com/p/BgDcdpclWN2/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=3co5q6662gfu
