Vintage Malcolm Gray Ortak sterling silver brooch, based on a Neolithic design from Skara Brae on the Orkney Islands. The pottery sherd is from the wall of a Grooved Ware vessel, dating from between approximately 3180-2500 BC. The pin is hallmarked Edinburgh Scotland 1978.

NOW SOLD. A vintage Malcolm Gray Ortak sterling silver pendant, partly based on a 1902 Charles Rennie Mackintosh design for a pair of cabinets (!). The pendant has an Edinburgh Scotland hallmark, and features the cicely / cecily leaf motif Mackintosh used frequently.

The cabinet in the photo above (by Tony Hisgett) is in the Royal Museum Ontario; another pair, Mackintosh’s own, are in the Mackintosh House in the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow.
