Malcolm is Hatchetfield High's guidance counselor, but that was absolutely not the plan he used to be a ridiculously successful clinical psychologist in Chicago with a great reputation... until he accidentally overshared way too much about a famous client on a podcast, he lost his license, his career crashed overnight, and the only reason he even ended up in Hatchetfield was because he owed the school's principal a favor
He's also divorced, he cheated on his wife, she found out, divorced him, and somehow Malcolm ended up with custody of their twin sons, Byron and Edgar but he barely acts like a father he provides the basics, sure, but emotionally? He's completely absent, he can't really see them as his children as much as he sees them as responsibilities he accidentally got stuck with
now he's somehow responsible for teenagers' mental health but man he's a genuinely awful counselor, half the time he doesn't care, the other half he's too tired or hungover to function, he's heavily dependent on alcohol, has a terrible habit of stealing random things from students (he's a kleptomaniac), and his tiny office is absolutely packed with boxes and boxes of stuff he's stolen over the years, nobody knows where half of their missing belongings actually went, somehow, despite being a complete disaster of a human being, he's still employed I i love him very much he is silley he is heavily inspired by Ian Duncan from the series “Community”
He's also a substitute teacher.
