i made these a while back to help keep track of everyone in Religion of Toy so far.. and i already need to update it for some new side characters, lol. (like some faces seen in Tommie's workshop) I want to use this to help keep track of the various background workers so i can have familiar faces and not have to always design ones on the spot. And also to keep track of other dead relatives, although the ones I have are all too vague still. Naucus and Herta, for example, are mostly there as stand-in examples of dead siblings Tommie never learns anything about. There's nothing more beyond their faces/names - at least at this time.

I am the "doing too much" guy for background characters, so some of that is expected. But.. my goals with Religion of Toy are kind of differently paced than FFAK or even NRD, where both of those comics have a sort of "ticking time bomb" event. Religion of Toy is geared to be somewhat more "slice of life" except.. the life I am slicing is inside of a terrible toy factory run by a really fucked up family. So we'll see how that plays out long-term.

Names/Designs of characters included here are definitely subject to change, esp for last names and characters who haven't appeared yet. I had a last name for Frefon but i can't figure out where it was written so.. i'll probably need a new one??? Luke also might be renamed to be Balsam "Shark" Fir. which you might be like.. wut??? But I've been writing a lot for him/his family and I am thinking about naming his dad Douglas Fir.. anyway.. it's a work in progress! So much of this has just been in text and it's been a little tricky translating characters I've only really seen/felt in my mind (sometimes for years) into like, actual physical designs haha. Not as easy as starting the other way around TBH.

Anyway, I'll probably be updating this image on my "art gallery" on comic fury for Religion of Toy as it expands. :)

In his company, Malcus provides..

That transgender workers are allowed access to housing, bathrooms, ect and have protection/rights against discrimination/harassment in the work force. Gender affirming care is included for patients with this “disability.” Including care for minors! Although children still are somewhat more restricted, they can still access a variety of services independently and without adult approval!  

But also..

This healthcare includes minors because there’s no child labor laws. :) Yayy!! If you child is unemployed they need to look for a job if they need hrt that badly. Clock in and lock in.

Malcus is like…

Crossdressers & Drag is perverted, fetishistic and shouldn’t be around children at all. He basically considers it as mocking people with real medical conditions. Plus those people like Gretta too much. They probably are alcoholics and addicts and not RESPONSIBLE MEMBERS in SOCIETY contributing to the COMMUNITY. 

But also..

Transgender is a real condition and all gender affirming healthcare should be provided to patients because he thinks it's a type of physical/hormonal disability.

Malcus believes..

Being cisgender is NOT REAL and everyone is SOME variant of Intersex, most people are just clusters of various traits in opposite ends of the spectrum of “male/female.” He does not believe in a male/female brain as well & thinks that’s sexist.  

But also..

Nonbinary/Genderfluid/Agender/Genderqueer or any kind of gender identity that doesn't fall into the binary is NOT REAL. Don’t ask me how this logic works for Malcus. Yes he does not consider “they/them” or any kind of neopronouns as valid either. 

Malcus agrees..

That homosexual people should be allowed to get married and have families. And stuff. That’s fine, sure. Especially if your partner transitioned after marriage/children. Adoption is a little more tricky for gay couples if the child is not actually related to one parent in some way, or designated as a legal guardian by the birth parents. 

But he also believes..

There is a gay gene.. Somewhere? Also probably some kind of hormonal imbalance? Idk. That can be the answer to most of these things for him. Anyway, just don’t be too much of a sexual deviant (see above.) Men need to be moderate with the eyeliner in the work force, that isn’t dress code. Butch or masculine presenting women ok because dress code is actually fairly unisex & conservative. So you ladies better watch the eye liner in the work force too. #equality

When Tommie Came out as a trans man to Malcus..

He immediately accepted and took his condition seriously and made changes to his entire company to help reflect and support people in his community that might be transgender. Accidentally making the Cuddlebug Factory a safe haven for queer people and actually fairly progressive in the setting. Many people travel to work there specifically for this aspect & for the community. #malcustheally 

Yet, if Gretta came out as a trans man to Malcus.. 

He would not believe her & think she was faking it for attention and/or copying Tommie. He also would be secretly jealous of the two having something to bond over without him. He’d begrudgingly respect Gretta (esp around Tommie) but internally judge her. #malcusthebigot 

anyway i felt like writing out some of the bizarre takes that Malcus has. Sort of a condensed version of the other discussion i posted. Yes he's a confused cis guy who also has not unpacked his own issues with his sexuality. Repressed in his own magical ways and projecting that on the world around him, like a true leader.
