Tamryn was different. Aside from being the only Asian American girl in her class. She was also the only one of her kind. A shadowlock attending school with a bunch of shadowhunters. She was five years old and that first day of school was the worst thing that had ever happened to her.
She was little, she didn't have time to learn how to control her magic yet. So when her teacher asked her to do show her something she could do. She was thinking about bubbles and suddenly bubbles of all shapes, colors and sizes were floating around the room.
At first the new developement was met with a look of awe from her fellow students, but it was quickly followed by laughing. Laughing and name calling.
"Oh look it's a freak show." "Freak." "Get lost loser, no one wants you." "You were a mistake." Most of the kids in her class were older than her by a few years. Seven and Eight were the oldest. Which confused her even more. Why was she in a class with so many older people?

Magnus was shocked when Tamryn hadn't come to see him after school, which he figured she would. After all, he was almost certain she'd want to talk about her day. She was after all a very talkative child. Down the hall he heard sounds of someone tinkering with a piano. Rather unceremoniously at that. He followed the sound to the music room, opened the door and found his daughter sitting there. Her heterochromatic eyes staring at the instrument like she was determined to figure it out. But all she did was key smash.
"That bad, huh?"Magnus sat next to her.

"What's a freak?"She looked about ready to cry. The teacher wouldn't tell her. But from the way all of the kids got scolded, she was sure it wasn't nice.
"Oh sweetheart. That's something that you're not. You're beautiful and talented, and special."He was just saying that because he was her daddy and he had too.
"The other kids at school told me I was a freak and that nobody wanted me....that i was a mistake. Was I mistake, Daddy?"
She looked at her Daddy and she could tell he was getting angry.
"No. You were no mistake,Tamryn. You are the world to me and your other Daddy too. We love you more than anyone else in the world can, and I don't want you to ever forget it okay?"
"Do I have to go back to school?"
"We'll discuss it."
"Okay. I love you, Daddy."
"I love you too, Tamryn. Now go play with your cousins."
The little girl wandered off wiping the tears from her eyes as she moved to go find her cousins to play a game. Maybe in the future she'd be ready for an actual school, but not now.
