Parties weren't really Clary's thing. She kind of couldn't stand them. Everyone crowding in on each other. Costume parties were worse. But what was worse than a costume party was a masquerade. The mask on her face was causing her to sweat, which made her itch, and her mood was clearly not doing very well in the sweltering heat of the ballroom. And where was Jace? They were here on official Clave business, not to enjoy the festivities.
When she finally found him, and his black mask, she found jealousy rising up inside her. Seriously? Her boyfriend dancing with another girl. He was supposed to be dancing with her. Now that she thought about it, he hadn't danced with her all night. It was slightly depressing. She slinked off to find herself a corner of the ballroom that wasn't over crowded. She knew maybe they'd find what they were looking for if she did.
So she stood on the sidelines. Watching everyone dance and have fun, masks and gowns flowing every which way. When someone tapped her softly on the shoulder. "No lady should have to sit alone at a party like this. Dance with me."His tone implied that he was suave, and the type that geniunely cared, though something in the way his eyes looked behind his mask, said other wise. So she placed her hand in his offered one and allowed him to lead her onto the dance floor.
He was cold. Freezing even. She took a breath, Her free hand, checking to make sure her blade was in reach. It was, buried within layers of skirtage, but she'd be able to retrieve it quickly enough. Vampires were tricky, especially when they were going against the Accords and feeding on humans. That's why they were here.
~~~ Jace caught sight of Clary, and a vampire. Moving towards the center of the dance floor. So it was true, the host of this party was one of those who if he saw a damsel sitting on the sidelines he'd lead her into the heart of the party. Though he couldn't help but feel a bit of jealousy. It should've been him that she was with. He looked back to his current partner. A vampire as well. Her name Cassandra Devoux.
"You're a perfect little beauty aren't you?"The vampire asked him.
"So I've been told."
Her movement were careful and calculated. And he watched her in the most subtle of ways. Not the vampire in front of him though, His Clary. Across the dance floor with the Master of the House. Dancing the dance that should've been his. He couldn't help but smirk when he watched her check for blade access.
~~~
The clock struck midnight with a sound that was almost like a pounding. "It is time my friends!"Clary's partner whose name she'd learned was Danil Calin. A vampire almost as old as time itself. "It is time."
Before she could reach for her blade fangs released and stabbed into her flesh. She tried to make him stop. This couldn't be happening. Not now. Not like this. There was a loud screech from across the room and then a sudden jolt as the fangs retracted from her neck as the vampire faded to ash. Revealing Jace, seraph blade drawn.
"Dance with me?"He asked, as the vampires surrounded them.
"Not exactly the type of dance I had in mind but it'll do."She said, drawing Heosphoros from its sheath and preparing to meet take down each and every vampire who came near her.
"Good because you don't get much of a choice."Jace took down several vampires who had lunged in one fluid motion.
"Damn, and here I thought I had free will to choose what I want."Clary snarked back, taking down several herself.
As if right on time, back up arrived. Alec and Isabelle roared into action joining the crowd and wiping out several dozen vampires on their own. After what seemed an eternity they'd finally beaten most of them.
"Let's get out of here, so Iz can light this joint up."Clary smirked, heading towards the door, she tore the mask off letting it fall to the floor behind her. Jace seemingly following suit.
That had been a successful mission. For the most part anyway.
