I’m writing this at 11:30 pm after binging this entire fic in three hours. I just have to recommend it.

So I binged this whole thing and it is so so fantastic. I haven’t seen anyone else write this kind of story and I have adored it.

So I’m not going to spoil anything but this is a fantastic instance of AltMal and you just can’t help but fall in love with how they’re written. It’s all from Malik’s pov and that just drives home every inch of the mysteries.

It’s a really well written instance of the pov character not knowing everything that’s happening. Some of the mysteries you can figure out by just knowing the canon story, but so many details are an unknown to the reader too and leave you wondering how the story will unfold.

It’s pretty rare when a story can really pull off a mystery plot (while not being a detective genre story) where you as the reader are also in the dark and can solve the mysteries right alongside the pov character. You can discover the secrets of what’s happening right at the same time as Malik many times. Sometimes you can figure it out just before him so you really get to see his discoveries and how they impact him. But sometimes you don’t know what’s going to happen and it’s so fantastically written.

The best part is that it never feels like it was impossible for you to figure out. Upon a reread you can pick up all the little details that hinted at what was happening the whole time but you likely didn’t put them all together the first time.

The emotions in the story are also incredibly well written. You feel the pain of Malik repeatedly as he works through his trauma and how the story impacts him.

Fic is ongoing, as of writing this (5/16/25) it is at 71,009 words, 23 chapters.

After Rashid punishes Altaïr for speaking the truth to Abbas in regards to his father's death, and seeing the aftermath of such a cruel punishment in the wounded shell of the boy he loves, Malik decides he will stand by no longer. Desperate and low on supplies, the novices find safety and sanctuary in an unlikely group of knights traveling to Jerusalem. Another fic that has Robert de Sablé in a sympathetic role which is a trope I’ve actually totally fallen in love with. Granted in this fic so far (as of me posting this) Robert hasn’t shown up yet, but Blue has told me the plan for this fic and I’m super, super excited.

It’s also a fic with young Altaïr, Malik, and Kadar which is another trope I love. We get some really solid characterization of them all even with just the first two chapters and I love the way Blue writes them.

Plus, child Altaïr getting comfort for the trauma he went through is another thing I’m a sucker for and will always love reading so this ticks that box too.

This is such a fantastic idea and I love the way it’s written. It’s so heart wrenching to see the Al-Sayf family torn apart in detail. It’s never truly focused on in EoA, not in this kind of way, and I am amazed at how good the story is. The inclusion of Arabic terms of endearment and family, such as Asfoor, Akhee, and Baba, make it hit just that much harder.

It’s a brilliant addition to the EoA story and I will reread it many many times.

Now I’m gonna open with a disclaimer, if you have had bad experiences with loneliness, I’d recommend having a friendly contact on hand when you read chapter 2. I legitimately, not joking in the slightest, had a full on breakdown 2/3 through chapter 2 and needed to call a friend to recover. It is strong.

It’s a Desmond x Malik, which is a rare pair I absolutely adore, but it’s not super focused on the romance.

Chapter 1 is Desmond but chapter 2 is Malik and holy shit the way my chest hurt from how well DustToDust wrote the chapter. It’s indescribable. I cannot recommend reading it enough, but I also recommend caution. If you are easily influenced by what you read, even if only medium influenced by it, be careful. It hits hard.

I’m not usually the type to cry or whatever when reading stories. But I’ve had my own experiences with loneliness and holy fucking shit I cannot express to you enough how much this fic left me shaking. I may seem dramatic, but seriously this story left me seriously affected in its wake.

None of this is to say don’t read it, it’s fantastic and an amazing read, please do. Just warning people.

The fic is rated E but so far hasn’t gotten very explicit in any manner so I assume some shit is gonna go down later but I don’t know yet.

This runs with the characters and world of Assassin’s Creed with (so far) not a lot of the plot. And that could absolutely be a recipe for disaster but Blue pulls it off masterfully. Altaïr and Malik feel so right, like you’d be able to tell exactly who they were even if they weren’t named, which in my opinion is always an indication of a very good writer.

The setup is very unique, I’ve never seen a single other fic with this concept and the world-building is masterful. Blue can make a world feel so endless in so many ways and their writing is so descriptive it feels so viscerally alive. The most recent chapter literally gave me chills, the descriptions paint such a vivid picture it’s impossible to not feel immersed.

All of us have seen ‘character split into separate pieces of themself that fight’. It’s in TONS of stories. But I’ve very very rarely seen it in the AC fandom. Personally I really enjoy them so this is a blast.

Not gonna spoil it by giving any details away but the parts the author chose to represent Altaïr are really clever and do a great job of really encompassing the character.

The story is split in a unique way to have sections rather than chapters. Personally I appreciate that. The writing is sublime and it’s a hell of a read every time.
