Potato Corner probably has the best mall snacks, even a bit better than my beloved soft pretzels. They specialize in flavored French fries; fries that are dusted with your choice of seasonings.

First you pick your size (mega, giga), then you choose the type of fries (original, loopy, sweet potato, tater tots, jo jo chips), and the flavor (BBQ, cheddar, sour cream & onion, chili BBQ, cinnamon & sugar, garlic & parmesan). You can combine flavors too i.e., they’ll put more than one flavor on your chips). Loopy fries and sweet potato fries are more expensive. They also have baked potatoes, fried chicken tenders, poppers, and chicken wings.

They used to have a smaller size, jumbo, but this location didn’t seem to have it. I’d rather have jumbo because that’s a good snack size.

* Mega combo – mega Tater tots with chili BBQ & garlic parmesan and a soda ($7): The tots were fried to order and were hot, crispy on the outside, soft interior and not greasy. The dry seasonings are added and they put a lot on there so it’s very flavorful. I’ve tried the different seasonings and settled on my favorite seasoning combo. The seasonings really stay on the tots. It’s not that spicy but very savory

The Potato Corner kiosk is near the food court and in front of the Disney Store (the Forever 21 wing). Service was friendly but they were having some technical issues and were accepting cash only.

Fry Yay, 400 S Baldwin Ave., Ste 9250, Arcadia, CA 91007

I have a feeling that many loyal Potato Corner fans are angry that Fry Yay took over their prime spot and adding insult to injury, copied PC’s concept. But there are differences between the two. Fry Yay has seasonings that PC doesn’t and it doesn’t charge extra for sweet potato fries like PC does. PC has a loyalty program and is more generous with seasonings. Both use frozen potatoes and powdered seasonings.

Fry Yay comes in three sizes (S $4.50, M $5.50, L $7). Choose your fries (French fries, tater tots, potato chips, curly fries, sweet potato fries), select your seasonings (up to 2), choose a sauce. Premium toppings include Flaming Hot Cheetos and nacho chese. They also have chicken fries and drinks.

* Sweet potato fries with Sriracha and Garlic Parmesan + Flaming Hot Cheetos): The sweet potato fries were waffle cut. A few were stuck together and limp but most were hot and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. They use less seasoning powder, so the fries aren’t as flavorful, but the sign did say if you want more seasonings, just ask. The crushed Cheetos fell off because you eat fries by picking them up. Maybe it would make sense to get Cheetos if you also got the nacho sauce.

I asked if they had a rewards program – they don’t. I asked if you could get more than one kind of fry per order, they said no.
