Car Journey Puzzle
A car is travelling at variable speed. In the first hour, it covers one quarter of the journey. In the next hour, it covers one quarter of the remaining journey. In the third hour, it travels a further 45 miles and completes the journey.
What is the total distance covered? The answer will appear in the notes in a couple of days or so.

Perpetual Calendar Puzzle
As shown on the left of the photo above, this consists of two cubes with a number on each face. The cubes can be turned or swapped to produce any of the numbers from 01 to 31. 9 is 6 turned upside down.
The first cube in my perpetual calendar has the numbers 0, 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7. The second cube has 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 8. What is the maximum number of consecutive days when one can leave the two cubes in the same places without swapping them over into each other’s position?

Telephone Scam Warning
The phone rang at 8.00 this morning. A pre-recorded voice said that my Amazon Prime account had been debited by £79.99. If I wished to speak to an Amazon Prime representative, I should press 1 on the keypad.
Now for a start, I don’t have an Amazon Prime account. If I had, they would have sent an e-mail rather than phoned, but it almost sounded real at the time. The idea was probably to get my bank or card details so they could offer to pay a refund, but really use the personal information dishonestly.
Please don’t be fooled by this one.

Apologies for Absence and Plans for Future Return
Thank you to all readers for staying with me during the recent absence. I’d love to return in full, but various essential projects make that impossible at present. Rather than press on half heartedly, I’m going to take a break until the completion of some of the projects hopefully in Summer next year, but definitely intend to be back.
I’ll be torn between the niche oneminutemoneymagazine and the more popular malswebparty, but that’s a decision for next year.
Best wishes to all readers, Mal
