R Is For… Ryanair Ryanair (FR/RYR) | Callsign: Ryanair | Fleet Size: 469 | Destinations: 225 | Bases: 82 including Barcelona (BCN), Brussels-Charleroi (CRL), Dublin (DUB), Edinburgh (EDI), London Luton (LTN), London Stansted (STN), Malaga (AGP), Manchester (MAN), Rome-Ciampino (CIA) Ryanair was originally founded in 1984 and has grown from a small regional operator flying between Waterford and Gatwick with a 15 seat Embraer Bandeirante to become the largest carrier in Europe with a combined fleet of over 300 Boeing 737-800s. In 1988, a certain Mr Michael O’Leary joined the company as chief financial officer, and following decreasing profits for the airline helped create the low cost carrier we see today having travelled out to the USA to visit the world’s largest low cost airline, Southwest. In 2003 the airline acquired Buzz, KLM’s UK-based low cost airline which was quickly folded into the main Ryanair fleet however since 2017 Ryanair has moved away from its single-airline strategy by adding additional brands and operator certificates including Ryanair UK, Buzz (Poland), Malta Air and Lauda, all of which operate as part of the Ryanair family, but focus on different parts of the airline’s European network. #Ryanair #Buzz #MaltaAir #Lauda #Boeing #Boeing737 #B737 #B738 #BoeingLovers #BCN #CRL #LTN #STN #AGP #EGCC #DUB #EDI #29Aviation #AvGeek #Aviation #Plane #Pilot #PlanePorn #MegaPlane #InstaPlane #InstagramAviation #AviationPhotography #TJCaviationAZ #PlaneSpotting #Southwest (at Manchester Airport) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEmZTN9HJzt/?igshid=5beedvz3vgx
