After a short hike through Swiftwater Gorge, you’ll get to the Crossroad Forest, a lush, untouched place in the caverns. At the center of the mace-like cavern, the river Pher flows into an underground sea. As normal for the caverns, strange minerals react to the water, start drifting upwards and glowing in an eerie blue-white light and drifting down again. At its shores lies a small outpost of drow, guarding the crossing from which the forest takes its name. From here, small streets lead out into the upper caverns, down into the Deephive, or to the Mazeland.
The flora of the forest consists mainly of deeproot, the strange tree that grows everywhere underground. At its roots grow different types of fungus, the swivcap being the most notable of them. Thanks to its bioluminescence it is sometimes used as a guiding light in the deeper forest.
“I’d be cautious of those drow down there. Mostly they let you through, but sometimes they fleece you like there's no tomorrow. But once you’re through their little checkpoint your pretty much free to go anywhere you please. Just stay clear of the entrance to the Deephive, it’s a nasty place there.” -Sebastian Wyrm, cartographer
