Instead of trying to take responsibility for what they did, they choose to act like nothing happened. And when they DO think about it, they sugarcoat it. Riz convinces himself that it was an act of friendship, Melonās mom think of it as something romantic.
Melonās mom shows the result of ignoring your sins: You get a shallow life where you do all you can toĀ āoutshoutā the past, like(in Mama Melonās case) creating a nice little fantasy castle and never leave it. But it is not really a solution, as shown since Melonās mom constantly considered eating her own child.
