Wangari Maathai
Many Kenyans referred to her as “Mama Trees”. Kenya's former president, Daniel Arap Moi, referred to her as a “subversive”. Via her economic development campaigns, she made a difference in the lives of over 900,000 people. She was imprisoned and physically abused for opposing the construction of a skyscraper in the center of one of Nairobi's few remaining public green spaces. She was the first African feminist and the first environmental activist to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004. She did a lot of "little things."
