I have not!

But the local Free Book Rental (wow, living in the future is fantastic) organization doesn’t have the first book, so I probably won’t unless skipping to the second is a good idea.

I have actually fallen out of checking OTP tags for the past month-ish! Buuut one reason I probably can’t get the motivation to go back is because I’m tired of seeing drama (largely because I am a stubborn person who has a hard time not arguing with People Who Misrepresent Stuff). It would not shock me at all if there’s a ton of shiphate going on in there right now.

The “Dirkjake shippers, pay attention to this upd8 and take Dirk’s self-hating words as proof that he’s the reason your OTP is problematic!” posts were found in the wild, by which I mean a friend linked this stuff to me fresh from their dash to go “Ugh, can you believe this?”

EDIT: I take that back; I still check the Rosekat tag, because it only updates once in a blue moon, so I might as well check what the single new post is. It helps that rarepairs generally avoid the drama pretty well.

It’s already over!This was actually kind of the opposite of a pacifist run, weirdly enough. The game considers you a pacifist if you don’t kill anything yourself, so you need a powerful pet to slaughter everything for you. Which is one of the things I was trying to avoid.

Anyway, I got cornered on the Mines End level by a ghoul mage and a vampire. Couldn’t hurt the second directly because in Slash’EM you need a +2 weapon to hit a vampire, and the first cast a spell to keep me stunned so I couldn’t engrave Elbereth. The ability to call in a deus ex machina would have come in REALLY handy with one hit point out of one hundred left. 

Minus the part about being indirectly killed by respect for property rights, this is a pretty typical disappointing ending for a NetHack game.

That is true. The more I think on it, the more I’m getting a sense of “you don’t have the right to be that mean to characters who aren’t your creation.” So if “ownership” is the cause of guilt, I guess I do have the author’s feelings in mind, despite knowing the author won’t actually know or care about any fic I write. My brain just likes feeling bad about nonsense, I guess! Could be a bit of a mixture, too: guilt over both “these aren’t mine; I can’t return them in poor condition” and “these poor babies don’t deserve this crap after all they went through in canon.”

Very few people can even tell the diff btw various serifed fonts. I know when I was doing interviews I didn't pay attn to font choice, even though I'm a font nerd. But I will say that using a sans-serif font looks dumb on a resume.

Thanks for the info! I...am not entirely sure what fonts are in the sans-serif family but I’ll look it up and make sure to avoid them.
