I’m super excited about this show, which features three new works: a two-channel field recording of a trip I took from my apartment in upper Manhattan to Staten Island passing the Statue of Liberty (PASSING LIBERTY) which will be amplified through two rock speakers in a former meat case, another two-channel audio work that used a hydrophone to record the sound of ice melting (ICE MELTS) in a walk-in freezer, and a textile work using the image above being manipulated by a fan (HOT AIR). A limited edition lathe-cut 45rpm 7” has also been created, more details on that soon, and more info on the show here and here. Huge thank you to André at consultório and Alex at galeria ocupa for making this happen.

I recorded a track with the insanely talented Sam Cohen, which you can pre-order on Bandcamp now: https://manbartlett.bandcamp.com/album/solar-ways I wrote a bit about the process: On a mild early morning in March, I made the trek up to Accord, NY to Sam's studio with a loose idea of what we might get into that day. The list included some specifics: tuning in Diapason Normal (A4=435Hz), that I wanted our sound to be “big but inside you,” and a very long list of reference songs spanning many genres. The result—after a marathon session that stretched into the early morning—is nothing like what I thought we’d make together, but it represents a first-time collaboration that oozes the joy of a collective process of creative discovery. I haven’t had this much fun making music in a long, long time. Forever grateful to Sam for knowing how to bring the “vibe soup” out of my head and into reality in both recording and post production. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed making it.
