[its fine!] “I see you speak with her more than you do the other units under my care. I was curious. I wondered if it had more to do with 18’s social platforming. Unlike 24, she is more…. ‘eager’ to converse.”
"Hm," she hums softly, giving the matter some thought. "I suppose 18's personality makes her a tad more approachable than the others. That, and I find her curiosity for knowledge refreshing. I've seen many of those that accept information only at face value; they never bother to ask why or analyze anything further than they deem necessary." Slim shoulders shrug delicately. "And 24 is attractive in her own right. I find her strength and dedication admirable." Morgana laughs softly, a sardonic smile playing on her lips afterward. "However, given that I've seen what she's capable firsthand, I'm not quite so eager to test the limits of her patience should I decide to tease her as I normally would with 18."
You seem taken with 18, Morgana. Why is this?
Morgana looks away from the various screens in front of her, detailing miscellaneous reports or some other. An elegant brow arches in question."What makes you think I’m taken with her?"
Of Analytical Minds
Cerberus had never seen a human like Morgana Seren.
She was an Earth-born woman of English descent with an ability to manipulate emotions and—to an extent—psychologically control others with it as well. She was a prized subject, and when they had abducted her, they had experimented mercilessly upon her. After the abuse she suffered from some of their lower ranks, it hadn’t been difficult to mold her into the image they desired of her.
She became an assassin among other things in their organization. The empath was as lethal as she was beautiful. She was of average height but possessed pale skin—marred only by the old scars of rope burn at her wrists and ankles—and shoulder-length, curled tresses of mahogany that framed piercing, sterling eyes. Her demeanor was severely apathetic, but that caused little concern for her superiors, who only desired results, which she delivered successfully.
Besides her impressive mastery of empathy, she was a powerful biotic, and under their tutelage, she became a worthy opponent in close-quarters combat. With a pistol, she was considered quite the marksman although she seemed to have a distinct preference for knives, for they were far easier to conceal. Such training had been essential, for they feared the loss of her. They were determined to ascertain whether or not her unique empathy could somehow be copied onto others; for that, they needed to ensure all possibilities for her survival despite the violent lifestyle they forced her into. However, even if that hadn’t been the case, it seemed her empathic powers came with its own set of consequences.
Morgana could not make use of her ability without suffering migraines. The effects were far worse if she used them excessively or came into physical contact with others. As such, she needed to be put on medication to control the searing mental pain.
Unfortunately, her body would eventually adapt to them, and newer batches needed to be created every other year or so. Cerberus scientists knew that even as the empath stole away into the night with a shipment of them. Her escape was most likely connected to the Lineage Project they’d recently restarted.
As far as the rogue facility’s scientists were concerned, if they couldn’t copy her ability, they’d find other ways to ensure other humans could possess them…
However, while they were determined to retrieve the elusive woman, they feared that others would want the empath for themselves if they discovered the ability she possessed. As such, when they announced the sizable bounty on her, they purposely neglected to mention that detail. In doing so, mercenaries and bounty hunters fell at her hands.
But Cerberus was nothing if not patient.
In time, they had recaptured the empath that had escaped their grasp for well over a year. The fight had not been an easy one, but once the woman’s drugs finally wore down, they quickly sequestered her away on a frigate to one of their facilities.
The fearsome woman was currently being held in a cell under heavy watch at the deepest level of the building. They’d thought they had broken her last time, but they would ensure such effects would remain permanent the second time around…
