I visited Hikarigaoka, Tokyo. This is the neighbourhood where the kids lived in Digimon Adventure. Was dope to walk around it IRL.

Then I visited the Toei Animation Museum, then Mandarake Special 6 in Nakano Broadway. I bought a 25th Anniversary Color Digimon. What a great day.

Didn't realise until today that the Mandarake store in Shibuya was previously a nightclub until the mid 1990s. Can't find any pictures or info at all about this nightclub, but the steampunk-like façade and cave-like interior are more or less untouched since it's nightclub days. Back in the mid 1990s, the original Shibuya Mandarake store was situated in the Dogenzaka area (the Beam Building where Mandarake is now is in Udagawacho), had three floors and was situated up a hill. I think maybe it was right in the middle of Dogenzaka. I've found a scanned article on the store from 1996, but it only shows a picture of the interior and doesn't include the shop's actual address. Not exactly sure when it moved to the nightclub at Beam (circa 1997?), but I do know the store in Dogenzaka opened in 1994.

Edit: there was (maybe still is) a stage inside where staff and customers used to perform karaoke on occasionally. I don't remember there being one, but maybe somehow I missed it every time I've been... apparently this is not the same stage the nightclub originally had. Theirs was a circular stage. Also rather amused to find when people talk about the nightclub on social media, literally no one remembers the name of it.

So yeah, I've been shopping like I make a million dollars an hour the last few months xD;; Time for me to cool it the hell down, but might as well show off some of the goodies that I got before then xD

It's mostly Dragon Quest, but there's some Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, and Earthbound in there too :D

Mandarake Woes

Mandarake: We only accept Paypal and Credit Cards, no Debit Cards.

Me: Checks out with paypal, as I have done for literal years now.

Mandarake: Thank you for your order. We will follow up with a shipping quote.

Mandarake: Your total is X. Please proceed to the payment page.

Me: Goes to pay the shipping, as I have done for one billion years.

Mandarake: Suddenly has no paypal option, only the option to add a credit card.

Me: goes to file a ticket with hopes and prayers that they won't close my account for being "difficult" when it's their stupid policy preventing me from finishing my order. I'm not ordering anything R18, I'm literally just getting some secondhand doll clothes from Complex, so what gives! And why don't they accept debit cards? They require credit cards with a verification method so obscure no one at my bank has ever even heard of it before, it sucks. Who the hell has a credit card in 2023?? At the end of the day it's small potatoes of a thing to complain over, but man. Why is it like this.
