been bouncing a grace choi & dick grayson fic around in my head since literally august but I keep getting stuck on the fact that dick would rather claw his own eyes out than talk about any of this especially with grace. they're just not close like that and also the idea that his experience and Grace's would ever even be in the same category is completely a non-starter for him. and grace will drop-kick you through a building if you call her a victim and idk that she likes survivor a lot better so it's just like. well how does this conversation even HAPPEN.

Dick hasn't spoken to Bruce for eleven months, so it's particularly unfortunate that the first time he sees his former mentor in nearly a year is while pulling a five-inch needle dosed with aphrodisiac out of the meat of his thigh. He should have known better than to think he could get away with investigating anything in Gotham. And he definitely shouldn't have put off upgrading the material of his new suit.

Bruce never tells him what he's done, to feel the itch under his skin that only Dick can satisfy. Sometimes Dick can guess. Sometimes Dick was there. As far as he knows, Bruce has never come to him because of something he's done to Dick. Although it's possible that if you squinted this whole thing could be wrapped up in the mantle of things Bruce has done to Dick.

I just think it's good if they're having these sort of unhinged sessions where Bruce shows up wordlessly in dick's apartment every time he has a guilt spiral and dick hits him very ritualistically and repetitively about it. this temporarily solves Bruce's guilt problem and gives dick a brief sense of catharsis and control but creates several other increasingly large problems that both of them are currently ignoring <3

going through and editing a line and going huh I wonder if sodium streetlamps were in common use in the 1970s and reader they were not. they were just being rolled out, touted as having "crime reduction" properties, and were often disliked. I guess I could have put them in Gotham relatively early under a particularly tough on crime mayor but I think they would have been unusual enough that dick would mentally note them. and that would be an absurd digression. so Gotham has incandescent streetlamps in this fic.

also I cannot express how much this fic being set in the 70s is like, not important at all. aside from the fact that I needed a reason for eagles to still be very very rare. but if the details are wrong I would know. and it would bother me.

in all honesty it probably would have been mercury vapor for the cost savings but mercury lighting is greenish and if I describe a streetlight as green it's going to feel really weird to a lot of people given that mercury vapor is now banned in multiple countries and has been being phased out since the 70s. and again I can't be explaining streetlamps in my dick grayson grooming fic that's what my tumblr blog is for.
