Rating My 13 Cons and Future Cons
I have been to 13 conventions during my almost 4 years of going to cons. I started going to cons pretty late compared to other people I've seen, but at least I'm going to them, so I'm going to list the 13 cons I've been to, starting from the best con to the worst con:
Anime Expo 2011 - That was the first time that I went to Anime Expo and it certainly didn't disappoint. By doing my Lone Cosplayers/Con-Goers Meetup, I made some friends. Also, that was the year of Mikunopolis!
Anime Expo 2012 - Not quite as good as AX 2011, but I still had a great time, making new friends, etc. This was also the first time I was able to cosplay with someone.
Otakon 2012 - That was the first time I went to Otakon. Not as great as AX, but still better than any other convention I've been to. Also helps that I was rooming with friends and that I made more friends.
NYAF 2008 - I put this up there just because it was my first convention. I only went for one day, but I had fun. It proved to me that I wanted to go to conventions more...and I also made a friend because of that convention.
AnimeNEXT 2012 - Though it was kind of uneventful, I was able to go with friends and make new friends.
MangaNEXT 2012 - Again, uneventful, but it was the first time in a long time that I was able to go with people I knew to a convention.
AnimeNEXT 2011 - This was the beginning of an amazing month-long period for me. Again, not very eventful, but I did make a friend there.
NYAF 2009 - This was the first time I went to a convention alone. I still had a great time and Makino Yui was there! This was also the first time I cosplayed (as Inugami Kotarou)
NYAF 2010 - Going alone has started to wear me, but I still had a good time and Chihara Minori was there!
AnimeNEXT 2009 - This was the last time I went to a convention with friends in some time. I can't remember too well what happened, but I did have a good time here.
AnimeNEXT 2010 - I don't remember too well what happened here, but what I do remember was that my mind was probably up in the clouds at that time. (A couple of weeks later, things just crashed, but that's another story that I won't talk about)
Mokucon 2008 - A very small convention that was held at Rutgers. It was small, but I was with friends.
NYCC 2011 - So I had some fun in most of the conventions I've been to. This is the only convention I had a bad time at. It doesn't help that I had high expectations of going with people and it doesn't help that they bailed on me during the two days I went. I ended up not going the third day because I had such a bad time.
As you can see, how I feel about a con depends on whether or not I go with friends and if I make new friends. Sometimes, the guests can help, but going with friends and being able to cosplay is the main reason I go to conventions.
Now, let's look into the future to see what conventions I'm planning. Keep in mind that I don't have a job yet and everything is dependent on that.
NYCC 2012 - Already plan to go. Current cosplay plans: Kirito on D1 and/or D3, Senbonzakura Len on D2. Hoping to find an Asuna that will join me.
Anime Boston 2013 - There are two things that will determine if I go: money and friends. If I have a job, then I could go. If I have friends going, then I will go.
AnimeNEXT 2013 - It's close to my house, so why not. Current cosplay plans: Kirito (Sword Art Online), Shinku (DOG DAYS), Len (unknown version).
Anime Expo 2013 - I say I will go and I already bought a 4-day badge for it, but not having a job by then will make it tough. I'll still say that I'm going. Current cosplay plans: Ciel, Len (several versions), Genis, Kirito, Genderbend Shirakawa Kotori (?)
Otakon 2013 - Same as Anime Boston. Money and friends will determine if I go.
