gianna is an only child, born in green bay wisconsin in a small suburb. her mother was a high school teacher, and her father was an investment banker before both of them retired. 

growing up gianna was spoiled by her parents because she was their only child; despite being a traditional italian family, her parents had no luck having children past her. because of this, she grew up a little bit bratty. she had a slight sense of entitlement, and fell in with group of ‘mean girls’ in high school.

gianna was head cheerleader and a star student. she met her highschool sweetheart and now ex-husband in her junior year of high school, and they became attached at the hip. 

in college, she discovered her interest in psychology and mental health, and decided to get her doctorate in psychiatry, as well as therapy. she lost her bratty bitch attitude and began to become more compassionate. she and her ex-husband were married her junior year of college.

after 21 years of schooling, gianna earned her doctorate in both psychiatry and therapy, and at the age of 39, opened her own private practice.

that same year, gianna had her first and only child, vincent, who is now eight years old. a few months after vincent’s birth, the family settled down in new york city where gianna established her own practice. 

gianna and her then husband got divorced a year ago after gianna discovered that he’d been cheating on her with his assistant for the last few years, who happened to be much younger than gianna. 

this caused gianna to spiral into a depression - she’d never loved somebody so much and been let down so hard at the same time. she took the news really badly, and has been having an episode since the divorce happened. 

gianna has a growing xanax addiction that she is sure she can manage, but diagnoses herself as a ‘functioning alcoholic.’ she had her medical licenses suspended for six months recently due to a lawsuit that a patient had filed for malpractice when she showed up intoxicated for an appointment, and only just earned them back.

she has partial custody of vincent every weekend and most holidays. she tries her best for him, there is nobody else in her life that she tries for. 

personality:

she’s basically just a hot mess, as her label states. she’s emotional, moody, and a little bit obsessive over her ex-husband and his new girlfriend. she’s completely unhinged; who else would you want to look after your mental health? 

she always wants the appearance of strength and decorum, so she tries her best to seem put together. those who really know her, however, understand that she is bursting at the seams.

she’s a loving mother, if not a great one. she loves her son more than anything in the world, and doesn’t know how to explain to him that she’s hurting so badly. 

straightforward and to the point, gianna is very blunt and doesn’t hesitate when delivering things people don’t want to hear.

despite her messy past with her practice, gianna is a superb therapist and psychiatrist. she understands her patients, and truly wishes to make a difference in their lives.

who was that walking around manhattan? it was audrea de guinness. she’s 29 years old, and originally come from london, england. she’s known as the duchess, and she is a heiress & businesswoman. when i hear her name, i think of red wine on a french balcony, rose-scented everything, early morning emails, late night business calls, and impulsive flights to paris. i hear she’s independent and intelligent, but i wouldn’t mess with her, because people say she’s impulsive and untrusting, too. [candice swanepoel, heterosexual, she/her, cis-female] 

audrea genevière cordelia de guinness is the youngest of the de guinness sisters, daughters of  abraham and josephine de guinness. the de guinness family is one of the most prominent noble family in england, making audrea and her sisters inherit the honourable title of a lady.

out of her two sisters, audrea is the only one who is interested in inheriting the family business. her eldest sister, audrey langham, was a chef and restaurateur who married american businessman and hospitality group owner, phillip langham (wanted connection). her elder sister, audra de guinness, is an actress who mainly acts in theatres such as the west end and broadway.

with both sisters pursuing their own dreams, the responsibility of a family business fell onto audrea’s tiny shoulders. not that she minded, of course, because once she had worked for her father’s company while she was still in college, audrea knew that this was what she was meant to do.

the de guinness company started as a trading and mining company founded in 1891 by herbert de guinness, but has since branched out to own an airline and invested in several other companies and was dubbed the de guinness empire. it was also known to have supplied diamonds to many jewellery brands.

after three years of working for the family company, audrea also wanted to start her own business. since her father had invested in a lot of other businesses and had a firsthand access to a diamond mine, she decided to open up her own jewellery business with a partner.

personality-wise, audrea is a very articulate woman. she is more on the reserved side. she is not the type to be outgoing and go to clubs every other weekend or attend parties. she has a lot of connections and networks due to her social status and her family business, but she has very few close friends that she truly trusts to be her accountable counsellors and those whose opinion really matter.

she is a hard-worker (kind of on the workaholic side too). you’ll see her still thinking about work even during weekends. audrea is also the type to be able to bear a lot of stresses and remain calm under pressure, but it all would usually accumulate and when she reaches her limit, it will usually implode and cause her to feel all the stresses at once.

usually, to solve this, audrea hops on the next flight to paris. cliche as it is, paris is her sanctuary; whenever everything goes wrong, she books her penthouse suite at the george v and stays in her room or take long walks along the streets of paris. she would also shop sometimes. everything is right in paris, and it gives her a chance to visit nice where her grandparents had retired to.

she has the poise and elegance that you would expect from a nobility. the way she speaks is very diplomatic and charismatic, she has the traits of a good leader –– communicative, stern when needed, but she is also a good listener, and a very resourceful problem-solver. when i think about her the way she carries herself and the way she speaks, i think kate middleton.

He was born and raised in Nashville by his single mother after his father left them when he was a toddler. They spent a lot of time couch surfing or staying with family while his mother worked three jobs trying to make ends meet and save up for their own place

He didn’t have a lot of friends growing up because he tended to move around a lot, so he found comfort in books and in learning. He quickly found interest in computers from there. 

Despite being in a few different schools growing up, he still graduated at the top of his class and went to college on a full academic scholarship 

After graduating with a degree in computer science, he was quickly offered a job by Apple as a software engineer. 

For the first few years of his job he was able to work remotely from his home office, but they offered him a job in Manhattan and he couldn’t pass it up.

He is a total mama’s boy and speaks to her in some capacity almost every day, he also tends to drop money in her bank account without her knowing just to help her out now and then because of how hard she worked for him.

charlie weber, for better or worse, was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. the only child of a doctor and a lawyer, what his parents lacked for in time they made up for in experiences and material goods. 

he was born and raised in san francisco, often with a nanny and, as he go older, more often by himself. he was a bookish kid who had problems making friends and would sometimes get stories confused with reality. 

while friends didn’t come very easy to him, as he grew up, he found that romantic partners were much more willing to overlook his eccentricities, and he learned a lot about the world through them, his first real portal to it outside of his books. 

charlie had a high school sweetheart, and the two couldn’t bare to part when they were going to leave for college. rather than doing the sensible thing, attending the same school, and seeing if they could make it work, they eloped so that they could spend every second together. that was 1999. before they finished undergrad in 2003, they’d be divorced. one marriage down.

charlie actually got through a semester of med school before he realized that he needed to defer, to get out there and see the world, or at least get his hands dirty and see if this was what he wanted to do. he spent eighteen months in the peace corps, where he met and married spouse #2, roughly 2004.

he followed them back to new york city, the only reason why he ever came here, readmitting to med school and going through with it. med school passes, he and spouse #2 get a divorce right around 2007 or 2008, right before he was set to graduate

2008, maybe coincidentally and maybe not, charlie weber meets who he is sure is the man of his dreams, aaron wright, while aaron is working at a bar. he offers one night to walk him back to his apartment, one thing leads to another, and they get married in 2010. 

aaron and charlie stay together through his residency and the first year of him practicing fully, up through 2014. it’s an amicable divorce-- the two just don’t see enough of each other, and are at different places in their lives. 

charlie is single for the longest period of his life after he and aaron divorce, nearly three years. he says that he’s going to take it slow, that three divorces is enough of a red flag even for him, and that he needs to learn about himself, and focus on his work. he’s still miserable.

that all comes to a screeching halt when charlie meets elijah. he’ll take the ridicule of a fourth marriage in twenty years. this is what it’s all been leading up to, every moment of his life has just been coming down to this. it feels ridiculous, but it’s true. and charlie does his due diligence this time. they date for years. their loves grows and changes, but stays strong. he proposes, and the two are only recently married when we launch back into the present day.

charlie is a family practice doctor. if you see him, that usually means he’s your regular doctor, and you can bring just about anyone in your household. he isn’t the frantic new doctor that he was ten years ago. he’s well-settled into his practice, making his own hours, outside of the few days of the month he has to spend working in the hospital. he takes a lot of joy in his work, and has good relationships with most of his patients.

sam scott-simon, born samuel simon, is an all-american boy that was raised the heart of harlem’s sugar hill neighborhood. he, his parents, and his two brothers spent his childhood in a two-bedroom walk-up. they may not have had a lot, but they had each other, and that’s one of the most important vales that sam was raised with.

sam can count on his fingers the number of times that he’s left new york city. whether it was a school trip to albany or an impromptu weekend away to atlantic city, he’s still never been far, and he definitely hasn’t been on a plane. he wouldn’t know what to do away from the sights and sounds that he’s accostomed to.

sam was a solid b- student, but was always well-liked among his peers for his generous and gregarious attitude. his real talent was in sports, specifically baseball. he made the high school’s junior varsity team when he was in eighth grade, and there were people expecting big things from him.

things changed when sam was sixteen. he learned that he was going to be a father. wanting to do the right thing, and encouraged by family, he stepped into the parent role immediately. baseball was traded out for a part-time job as he worked to finish high school and give his child the best start possible. 

it’s hard out there as a parent, especially when, as well-meaning as your family is, there isn’t a lot of room for economic support. but sam wasn’t the only young person solely in charge of children at his high school. he’d only spoke to ethan scott in passing a few times, but he started to go to him when he needed advice.

this blossomed into a friendship, and the two started living together after high school, splitting the rent and working different shifts so that someone was always home to watch the kids. 

sam got a job at the hospital as an orderly, which is generally the same position that he holds today. as orderly jobs have been phased out, he’s gotten the training to be a patient care assistant, and has been considering getting his cna for about five years now, though he’s yet to take the plunge. 

sam never really had time to date, between fifty or sixty hour workweeks and spending time with his family. it might have been why the agreement was so appealing at first-- if sam and ethan were both still single at thirty, they would just get married. sam laughed about it at first. he liked women, for starters, and he’d never looked at ethan that way.

over years, those reasons faded away: he was, in fact, bisexual, and the longer he looked at ethan, the more he liked what he saw. he still didn’t make a move, terrified that a wrong step would blow up the family they had formed.

but thirty came, and neither of them had forgotten. long talks behind closed doors. and then everyone who knew them, even those who wouldn’t have been surprised to learn that they were dating, were surprised to learn that they were engaged. they’re married now, together and thriving even as the kids make their way into adulthood.

Zelda’s home life was fairly normal, her biological parents never married and split up months after she was born.

born in new york! her father was a homicide detective and his father ... etc. her mother was a middle school science teacher. jules (never juliet, please) has 2 older brothers: gabriel and adam, and she’s always been very close with her family.

her family moved to richmond, virginia when she was five. it was a steady change of pace, but her father received a safer offer for work that offered more money - so he took it. jules was never for wanting in her life, and had a decent support system throughout her childhood and formative years.

unremarkable teens. jules graduated high school a year early and attended college for a degree in criminal justice. she started out on the same police department as her father shortly thereafter but craved more. within the year she applied to be a beat cop back in NYC and was accepted. she bid farewell to her family and set off.

worked incredibly hard to get her promotion. jules was actually a vice detective for a short period of time before making the transfer to homicide ---which was her true calling.

her partner quickly became a staple part of her life: severin dane. a few years older, not necessarily wiser but a good balance to jules’ own temper from time to time, the two seemed to be a dream team. it was a good many years of them working together without a hitch, filling a place in one-another’s lives that only a connection like that could. early morning coffees, dropping by one-another’s places to commute to work together, going to the bar after a long shift together. severin knew parts of jules that even her brothers never did growing up and it was right.

it was with time that their relationship stepped in another direction entirely. one night after a cracked case, or perhaps in celebration thereof, where they fell into bed together ---and seemed to stay there.

at first the two agreed to keep their arrangement quiet, not to reveal it to HR or express their newfound interest in one-another while in the workplace. but as secret arrangements so often do, it fell by the wayside. it was too obvious the underlying feelings there and only a matter of time before their captain figured it out and sent one of them off to another precinct (which neither wanted).

it was a rough discussion, but ultimately severin made the decision to take it to HR. certain that her job would be jeopardized, jules made arrangements elsewhere. without warning, without saying a word to anyone, she accepted a job in seattle and took off. it was as simple as there one day, gone the next.

jules lived and worked in seattle for three years after disconnecting her phone, changing the number, and moving on entirely. but the pull of the city was too strong and her roots were too embedded in new york to leave.

somehow her former captain tracked her down, unaware of the reason she left in the first place (jules cited it was family-oriented and nothing else) and offered her a position again. the caveat being it was exactly her old position - partners with severin once again.

the readjustment to living in manhattan once again has been an easy one. she never quite unpacked her things from her apartment in seattle, so it was easy to pick up and come back. jules just hopes to keep her nose down and move through her business with as little issue as possible.

personality.

driven, sarcastic and somewhat apathetic are good ways to describe jules. she’s passionate about her interests but not much else grabs them outside of her known hobbies. she has a keen eye for detail and very much enjoys stressing her mind to discover its limits in any setting.
