Cryptid of the Day: Manipogo 

Description: From the beginning of the 20th century, people around Lake Manitoba, Canada have reported seeing a serpent-like creature with the head of a camel, which they call Manipogo. Sightings peaked in the 1960s, when groups of witnesses reported seeing the monster. In 1962, a photo was taken, & in 1997, one was allegedly killed & sold to a private collector.

In 1997, several campers staying at Lundar Beach campground in Manitoba, Canada, claimed to have seen something very strange in the waters of the lake. The strange object was seen hundreds of yards off the shore of Lake Manitoba. Campers that were witness to it claimed that it looked like a large reptile’s head and they were quickly told to evacuate the waters of the lake. However, the reptile didn’t show itself again and the encounter was brushed off as a floating log instead of Manipogo, the lake’s mysterious monster.

My interpretation of the Canadian Cryptid, Manipogo. There have been alleged sightings of this guy since the 1800s. I took more than a few creative liberties with the coloring of this guy and the general design. ^^; The one consistent thing about it’s design is being serpentine in nature.

Manipogo is a lake monster living in Lake Manitoba in Canada. Manipogo is described as a giant creature with flippers a sheep-like head, and razor sharp teeth. Many think it could be a thought to be extinct Mosasaur. The town of St. Laurent holds a Manipogo festival every year during the first week of March in honor of the legendary lame monster. People claim to have been seeing the Manipogo since the 1800′s but still with no concrete evidence of its existence.

In 2004, on Lake Manitoba, a commercial fisherman witnessed something quite strange. Keith Haden pulled in his fishing nets only to find that they had been ripped apart. He thought that the damage that had been done looked almost like if a shark had attacked his fishing nets. A large number of the fish in the nets had been completely bitten in half by enormous jaws. It is thought that the damage could have been done by Lake Manitoba’s own Manipogo.

One of the most interesting sightings of Manipogo, the monster of Lake Manitoba in Canada, happened on August 10th, 1960. On this day, 17 people - including Tom Locke, a government hired land inspector - witnessed three strange creatures swimming in the lake. The witnesses claimed to see enormous snake-like creatures swimming together in the water. They claimed the animals to be dark brown in color but couldn’t place what they were exactly.

Cryptid of the Day: Manipogo

Description: Many Canadian cryptids copy Ogopogo’s name, such as Igopogo and Winnipogo. Manipogo is seen on Lake Manitoba, and the first sighting of the monster was reported on 1909 by a Hudson Bay Company trader. Sightings peaked during the mid 20th century, and a rumor states that the creature was killed and sold in 1997.
