MANJIT THAPP is a UK-based illustrator. Her surreal portraits and illustrations make use of linear, graphic-design like layouts. Thapp is a fashion illustrator, and her minimalist sensibility helps to highlight the clothing that her subjects are wearing. Her artistic sensibilities also make for surreal, very beautiful comics.

Excerpts from Thapp’s short comics can be viewed on her website. One entitled “Sad” deals with her struggle with seasonal affective disorder, using illustration and minimal text to explore the impact of the season on her psyche. “Silent Comic” is entirely wordless and, again, explores mood through images and a limited, muted color palette.

Thapp does not use gutters in her layouts, and it works really well with her aesthetic. It creates the feel of a continuos illustration, highlighting the stillness in a single scene, which is chopped into segments.
