So, I just remembered something that happened many moons ago when my husband and I were renting studio space, with room for an art gallery. We had so much fun renovating this space at first. A lot of time and money later....
The gallery had a huge storefront window. Perfect for setting up a huge easel, or somewhat quirky displays that some artists are known for, maybe? After finding a wrought iron mannekin intended for displaying in that area, I was "window dressing" the gallery window with the pre-dressed mannekin.
So many tugs and wrestles with this heavy-ass mannekin later, I finally got the mannekin to balance (somewhat?) Looking up through the window, I saw that a rather small mob was forming there on the sidewalk in front. They seemed as a rule to be overtly offended, as if I were commiting some kind of crime...
I had to laugh completely out loud! I thought maybe they might smile a bit? But then I saw a few of those people taking shots with their phones -- and 'exclaimed "OMG!!!"
I had to keep laughing, though. Here I was bruised and sore struggling with this stupid mannekin... and I don't wanna know exactly what they might have been thinking! As soon as I caught my breath to close the drapes, there was immediate knocking on the door by many fists. As it was past 7:00 p.m. in the late summer, we were closed and no one else was in the gallery except for me.
I then realized that in bending and pulling and arranging the clothing on my heavy iron rod mannekin beast, well... it may have looked strange (perhaps a bit?). I still think it's hilarious that people will read the most sordid and offensive judgements into nearly any innocent situation. There's still more to this tale that will be continued later...
