I just finished catching up with TTWY and I've got SO MUCH to say about it! Good stuff! It's the first story with a back-in-time vibe to it and I didn't think I would like that! I'm not on a daily basis with American old school culture, but my last two years of studies have been LOADED with the 60s and old American movies. So, each time I'm reading Viv's part, I can almost hear her feminine, tiny voice just like the one from the movies - it's such a great feeling! It means you're doing a great +
+ job at portraying this era! At least in my opinion :) Also, I hope you are aware that your representation of the 50s/60s language and manners and culture in general is sooo vivid and clear! I mean, I could instantly get the vibe of the timeframe, I could imagine all the places and all the acts so well. You're doing an amazing job at that! Hats off, really. Writing a story only set in earlier times would've been fine enough for some, but you're actually mastering this task! I'm so impressed. And even though I feel like some of the acts or words spoken are lame for our generation, I definitely feel WHY they're there and why they're used in such way. Idk, maybe it's just too much of a literature-wise critical thinking here, I'm sorry, but I just feel like in terms of style, you made such a smooth progression from modern language and modern story telling to the times of early 1960s and its culture. It's just incredible! And all I can think about now is James Dean on his motorcycle and whether or not Niall sometimes dreams of being or looking a tad like him! I'm amazed how you made me think about your writing in other terms than your famous precision of description of feelings, acts, and sights. Now I've got another portion of literature to dig into! I'm so so happy that I finally got the time to read it through with a peaceful mind, without any rush. I can't wait for the upcoming parts, to see how the Niall-walking-away thing will end in the long run! I'm sending hugs :)
AHHHHHHHH omg i know i typically answer you privately, and i hope you dont mind me publishing it, but reading all of this has just got me feeling some type of way! haha wow! thank you so much!
i spent a lot of time researching different things for this story, and while i was already pretty well versed in the era (it is one of my favorites) its really so nice to hear that my fic is being received in the exact way that i was hoping for! im glad you can feel that connection between the era/time period but not have it be too over done, i was trying my hardest to keep it classic and true to life, but simple and still able to capture this generations attention. that can be difficult when writing, regardless of time period, so thats really very important to me and im so so happy that its coming across easy and that you are enjoying it! thank you for taking the time to read, and always taking a moment to send me these sweet and encouraging messages 💕
