So the first diary entry was actually written a while back so things have moved on a lot since then!
The unicycles have been upgraded and now feature a gear system made by the genius that is Florian Schlumpf - These things are magnificent though they take a little while to get used to. Other additions include new saddles, handle bars and a big ol' green rim!
We’re currently overwhelmingly chuffed with our new unicycles, however, we had to do a bit of D.I.Y. to get them to accept the unicycle gears but With Matt’s engineering knowledge he’s cut, grinded and welded his way to success and we’re finally all ready to ride!
First real tests at shifting gears are under way and whilst the experience is initially quite unsettling the speed is incredible! Our predicted average rate of 12mph is fairly comfortable and we’re peaking at just short of 20mph (Which let me tell you doesn’t feel so slow balanced on one wheel).
Practicing shifting gears along with distance riding has meant we've really been racking up the miles - this along with turbo training means we dont seem to be doing much but pedalling right now.
Exciting things happening slightly later today - Sciz will be joining the "Man on Couch" (www.manoncouch.com) to give him a unicycle lesson! Be sure to tune in at around 5pm to see how he get's along!
Sciz has a few big rides planned over the following couple of months to really put the unicycles - and himself - through their paces and we’ll be sure to keep you up to date with any big charity raising events that will be occurring in the months leading up to the challenge itself.
Only 4 months left now - let me tell you the past year has flown by and it’s all getting a little bit scary!
That's all for now - Ciao!
