Dragon Heist Villains 🌸☀️🍁❄️
This is the dust jacket I made for my Waterdeep Dragon Heist campaign book that I bound a while ago. I was inspired by old storybook and art nouveau illustrations for this one and wanted to give it a warm color palette with mostly reds, browns, and greens - which I thought would be perfect for the city of splendors.
🐍 The front has portraits for all the player characters. The back has the villains. 🐍 The stone with the three eyes is an important item that a large part of the plot revolves around. 🐍 The winged snake is the symbol of the Zhentarim, a criminal organization, that plays a part in the module 🐍 The front shows the city of Waterdeep, with its palace, a Walking Statue and the gryphons that are used by its city guard. The two towers in the background are where the final battle of the module took place. 🐍 The back has Henrietta, a beloved npc and self-proclaimed “most beautiful horse in the world” 🐍 The trollskull and the cinnamon bun on the flaps are also nods to the campaign. The players inherit “Trollskull Manor” and the artificer’s girlfriend was a baker known for her amazing cinnamon buns.
The modern look I designed for davil and manshoon
hi! i just wanted to say im obsessed with your manshoon/fzoulposting. where should one start to get to know their gayness better..... i read the one short story in the realms of infamy (it was cute af) but are there novels where they're more prominent? would love your insight but feel free to ignore if it's a bother!!
not a bother at all!! unfortunately in terms of novels/short stories material is kinda sparse on the ground and they don't often appear together on-page, but for that you want "Lord of the Darkways" (short story, published originally in Dragon Magazine issue #390; if you have difficulty finding it I do actually have a pdf and will share), and the novels Spellfire and Crown of Fire.
if you're willing to track down out-of-print sourcebooks (which is in fact how I got here, lol), top of the list is Ruins of Zhentil Keep for 2e. you want this one. it's Important for the Manshoon/Fzoul Understanding. Ruins covers a solid chunk of both background and worldbuilding, and let me just say, the subtext? immaculate. this one has the bit I'm most fixated on, their early relationship and rise to power (Fzoul helped Manshoon murder his high priest, who had usurped Manshoon's council seat!! they schismed the church of Bane together!!! Fzoul's heresy is all about serving mortal tyrants and he picked Manshoon, who was extremely baby at the time!!). this was actually the source that got me into them, I was doing campaign research and spent the whole time like "now wait a minute.....🏳️🌈?"
that said though, I'm less well-read in the novel department than I would like to be, so anyone else who is should feel welcome to chime in in the reblogs!
