After we visited the aquarium, our next stop was the Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo.

This gardens were created in 1950 by a group of North Carolina philanthropists. They visited the Roanoke presentation which explained the mysterious incident of missing settlers (they likely assimilated with local indigenous people in the harsh winter), and they were inspired to create this garden.

There’s a beautiful rose section with a sundial, and the center features a fountain.

The four corners of this center sunken garden feature statues personifying the seasons and there is a section devoted to live oaks.

There used to be a gate by the water, but it was washed away in a giant storm.

I love the way the sunlight fills those marble statues and there’s an interesting parallel with the small magnolia.

The queen Elizabeth statue shows her holding a rose.

There were many beautiful textures throughout the garden.

it’s so weird to think about how all the characters on obx wanna get the hell off of the island and never look back when I’ve spent my entire life planning to move there 🤔

also the fact that’s it’s happening within the next two years just blows my whole mind 🤯😭🥰 that I finally get to start a new life there and raise my future children in my favorite place in the entire world ♥️ it makes my heart really happy just thinking about it
