Mantis dragon is back. A concept I started last year. This one is based on Toxodera integrifolia, a bright red and yellow mantis from Malay and Borneo. Go Google, their tail end does actually look like red tubular flowers. I just made it more so. I used a photo by Chien C. Lee as a reference.

Also... has anyone else noticed that mantises are like centaurs. Got 4 lower limbs and then 2 upper...

Mantis lords are one of my fav bosses because they are strong independent women lol.

Anyway might start a series of dragon theme hollow knight characters if you guys are interested.

Mantis dragon? Okay, so this was kinda fun and for a first concept idea, not bad. That and mantises have so many bizarre shapes. I think I will be revisiting it at some point. I might also need to work on a larger scale.

Mantis 2.0

I wanted another play with the mantis design. I went with full 6 legs this time and a chunky tail. Head more triangular with antennae that look like horns. There are also small horns. These ideas are all based from a mix of different mantis species but mostly from the spiny flower mantis for the body. Head from the Idolomantis genus.

I may try another design focusing on the long and spindly mantises.
