My thoughts about Rantaro's family 🧭
A while ago, I was answering a question from an anon who wanted to know about my Amasai headcanons. There I mentioned that the hcs, concerning Shuichi’s relationship with the Rantaro sisters — it's a separate conversation, requiring clarification… And here! It’s time to talk about it! :-p
Most likely, there will be several parts — just keep this in mind 📌
I’ll start by saying that… actually… With Rantaro's canon (which we will learn from his FTE), I've had a VERY tough time..^^" I’m !warning! you right now that the headcanons I’ve listed here will contradict almost everything FTE says. That’s why they are HEADcanons basically, so I hope you understand 😌
You and I both know that Rantaro actually has 12 sisters
❗️BUT❗️ I find it unimaginably absurd that he has lost ALL OF THEM all over the world. Just… H O W?!? With this state of affairs, it’s no wonder why Rantaro is so triggered when people are trying to ask him about it and why he actually thinks he’s Useless Big Brother. Of course, the loss of all sisters may be Tragedy’s fault, because we've been shown more than once how the Ultimates families were kidnapped. Given the fact that Rantaro's memory has been erased several times — no wonder he can think as he thinks in FTE… But honestly, even that idea doesn’t sit well with me. SOOO In my DRV3 timeline (let’s call it that) Rantaro lost only ONE sister! It may not be as romantic in the context of Amasai, because Shuichi won’t have to spend his whole life trying to help him with searching xD But, be sure, I have a good substitute for everything..~
2. The next change concerns the degree of kinship between Rantaro and his sisters, let's say :^ As far as we know, most of them are step-sisters.
In that case, we have at least two scenarios, given that Rantaro CERTAINLY has a father because he mentions him. The first, Amami’s own mother is dead, so, some time after her death, the father married another woman (or two) who already had a number of daughters. Second, Rantaro’s parents are divorced without any tragic context, after which happens a string of Amami-father's marriages to divorced / widowed women, again left alone with their daughters. BUT…. Don’t you think that’s a very lucky-strange coincidence..? 😅Even though Rantaro’s mother may have ALSO found a man with a couple of daughters after the divorce, the number of marriages to get the number 12 must still be large enough. DR likes to confuse and twist things, but for me, it’s always beyond common sense 😵 That’s why I thought it would be easier if all Rantaro's sisters were blood to him ;) YEAH-YEAH, now it's physiologically insane… And I appreciate the meaning of the phrase: «Family is not just the same blood». Really. But I have my reasons for this headcanon, believe me 🙏
3. The last point is more difficult to justify — I already feel a huge misunderstanding 😬 Without any preface, apart from 12 sisters, I'm headcanon two more brothers for Rantaro. Why? It’s just a concept that was very hard to abandon as I really liked these OC's. So, now Rantaro’s mother had 15 children to give birth. Have mercy on me, ahah !!
In this post there will not be a description of everyone, but, however, I hope that I can justify myself a little by giving you a list with names, Birthdays and even ages for July 2018! Why this particular date — I will explain when it comes to hcs about my OTPs ~
Rantaro's parents:
Father — Nakatsu Amami. His name [なかつ] or [仲ツ] means "meadiator", because he’s also an Ultimate and, accordingly, a pretty successful travel agent! In other words, his agency is the "third party" between a tourist and travels ~ Born 27 May 1972 [Gemini]; by July 2018 he's 46 y.o.
Mother — Chirusaki Amami. Her name [ちるさき] or [生咲] means "bloom life" when 咲 it's "bloom" and 生 it's "life". This name also refers to her activities (owner of a huge fruit plantation), and ironically resonates with the fact that she gave birth to 15 children :'D Born 17 June 1976 [Gemini]; by July 2018 she's 42 y.o. Maiden name is Asano [淺野] — means "shallow field" (but I can’t vouch for correct pronunciation).

Born on 29 July 2005 [Leo] 『𝟖』 Shika Amami — 11 years and 8 months. Born on 10 November 2006 [Scorpio] 『𝟗』 Minari Amami — 10 years and 4 months. Born on 7 March 2008 [Pisces] 『𝟏𝟎』 Asanatsu Amami — 8 years and 10 months. Born on 9 September 2009 [Virgo] 『𝟏𝟏』 Tabiki Amami — 7 years and 7 months. Born on 28 December 2010 [Capricorn] 『𝟏𝟐』 Kiku Amami — 6 years old. Born on 16 July 2012 [Cancer] 『𝟏𝟑』 Yawame Amami — 4 years and 10 months. Born on 5 December 2014[Sagittarius] 『𝟏𝟓』 Naomo Amami — she was born sometime in April-May 2017, so in July she is only 1 year and 2-3 months [Taurus]
Name meanings:
Motoe [基江] or [もとえ] — "fundamentals bay". Kasono [香苑] or [かその] — "incense garden". Takasuke [高助] or [たかすけ] — "high help". Meiki [明吉] or [メイき] — "bright good luck". Benika [紅花] / [べにカ] — "crimson flower" and Beniyo [紅代] / [べによ] — "crimson era". Shika [志賀] or [しか] — "female deer" / "gentle deer". Minari [果熟] or [みなり] — "fruit + mellow" Asanatsu [朝夏] or [あさなつ] — "morning + summer" Tabiki [旅子] or [たびき] — "travel + child" Kiku [菊利] or [キクリ] — "chrysanthemum + benefit"; full name Kikuri Yawame [柔目] / [やわめ] — "tender eye" Harutsuna [春緑] / [はるつな] — "springtime green" Naomo [真木] / [なおも] — "true tree"
I’m not sure the names are correct because I’ve been taking information from a public source ^^" But I think you can see that most of them were based on plant-natural themes, since 1) Rantaro's name contains a hieroglyph with the meaning of "orchid"; 2) their mother is a plantation owner xD The more "abstract" names directly describe the character’s image, but I will already talk about it in the next part!
