My metrics for books are like 'was I bored while reading it,' 'how much did it annoy me,' and 'will I keep thinking about it after I read it'. If I'm bored by something I usually won't keep reading it because life is too short so there's actually sort of two branches. Readable or Not Readable. And in the Readable branch you have a slider bar of low to high Annoyance and then you also have a second, binary category. Which is: sometimes I'm reading a book because I need something to read and this is a book that seems Readable and will hold my attention. But sometimes I'm reading a book to read that book. The book itself is an Experience. So anyway the second category is Experience or Occupation I guess. And the POINT is, Occupation books that are Annoying often become Boring, but for Experience books that are Annoying, I'll usually read them happily. I might enjoy the experience of disagreeing with the book and picking it apart. So it's quite difficult for me to say if I Liked a book. I sometimes feel I don't even know if I Like reading; I just do it as a condition of existing in the brain I have. It's not for Liking or Disliking, it simply Is There. Anyway, that's why I don't really do star reviews,
