Some sad news to share - Manabu Ohashi, also known as Mao Lamdo, has passed away at the age of 73. Probably best known as the director and key animator of the “Cloud” short from Robot Carnival, he’s done a staggering amount of work over the years, including key animating some of iconic scenes in fan favorites such as the Unico films, The Dagger of Kamui, Space Adventure Cobra, The Sea Prince & The Fire Child, Neo-Tokyo, Venus Wars, and even Sailor Moon, just to name a few. Archipel (formerly known as toco toco) posted a translated interview with him back in 2015 on their Youtube channel that is definitely worth checking out, if you’ve never seen it.
Rest in Peace to an anime veteran who was a huge part of so much anime I love. You will be greatly missed.
