THE SLEUTH OF THE MING DYNASTY
GENRES: Historical, Mystery, Drama
SUMMARY: There’s nothing better than a tight-knit group of friends to solve every problem Ming can throw at you.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Uneaten noodles, mended chopsticks, spousal rights, corn, advanced medicine, doppelgängers, PTSD, ingenues, secret messages, carriages, and cooking montages.
HOT TAKE: I can't say that this was my favorite period mystery thus far, but the ensemble cast kept me interested enough to see where the plot would ultimately end up. Speaking of characters, everyone had such high positions and were so young! All these teens and 20-somethings running around solving imperial crimes!
There wasn't as much of an overt over-arching story throughout this show as I've seen in other Cdrama mystery series, which was disappointing because I feel that to carry a show through 25+ eps, you need a good backbone. This was structured mostly with a mystery-of-the-week feel that had some vague subplots to overthrow the emperor thrown in to keep all the characters interacting with each other for 48 episodes.
