Rescue Operation: A collaboration brings maps and atlases from the City of Minneapolis to the HCL and UofM libraries and their users
Remember when Special Collections interns Laura and Sumaia transported over 300 rolled maps down 4th Avenue from City Hall to Minneapolis Central Library in 2018? The map transfer was part of a multi-year collaboration between the City of Minneapolis, Hennepin County Library, and the University of Minnesota. Over 300 maps from the city clock tower archive also made their way over to the University of Minnesota’s Borchert Map Library. Preservation and digitization of these maps is now nearly complete. Read the full story and check out the digitized maps.
Many of the maps transferred to Hennepin County Library Special Collections are available in the Map Collection in the Digital Collections.
