MAPLE’S SAVIOR COMPLEX.

Maple, ever since she was young, has wanted to help other people. Whether it be listening to their friends rant about a breakup or confronting their bully about their actions, Maple always saw it as her responsibility to fix others problems. To save them. And they always did. From that one time she got “Most likely to become superhero” in elementary school yearbook superlatives, to when her friend called her crying, thanking her for giving her the courage to leave her abusive boyfriend. She always saved everyone. She always did.

Oh, Catalina.

Catalina was Maple’s universe. The centerpiece of their world. The main course of a meal. Maple listened to her rant, she gave her advice on whenever she fell into depressive ruts, taught her that how her parents treated her was abusive. Maple thought they were getting to her based off how she smiled more and gradually started interacting with the other patients, with Maple’s encouragement. Maple even started to feel a deep connection to Catalina. Something they couldn’t put their finger on.

And then that fated day arrived.

Maple saved everyone in her life.

Maple had saved everyone in her life.

It’s ironic.

She spent her whole life trying to fix everyone’s problems, but when it came to the one they treasured most…

Maple didn’t save Catalina.

And that hurt more than anything.

Maybe if she had booked more therapy sessions with her. Maybe if they had talked more often. Maybe if they had encouraged her to participate in group activities more often.

Maybe if she told her how she felt, she wouldn’t be hanging lifelessly in front of her.
