I just wanted to thank you for that post about fixed zoom levels in ArcMap. That probably saved me a couple of hours today when I had to go through almost 300 points.

How does one go about taking the test? I’m interested to see if my GIS skills are anywhere near what ESRI thinks they should be.

You sign up online here and they have one free page of review questions you can go through here. It's not exactly hard per se, more like you really need to know the material they're actually going to ask about. And from what I saw, they really pushed the geodatabase stuff from their tutorial books.
