Okay lang ba na sabihin ko na miss ko na umakyat?? #throwbackThursday #TBT #sayawpamore #Maranat
Climbing a mountain is not an easy task. And for me to actually try it is on another level. As I’m not the fittest of people. Nevertheless, everything was set and on with our climb. Mt. Maranat.
Coming from the city, we came to the place almost at noontime. So we expected the sun to be aggressive and mighty. And it was.
The trail was bare and has little or no trees surrounding it. As with the case with all the trails like that, we were directly under the mercy of the sun. Which dramatically drained my energy from a few minutes of walking.
Some occasional tree to the rescue.
On we go.....
Such a beautiful portrait.
Exhaustion was catching up on me at this point, I was on the verge of giving up. Regretting my decision to climb a mountain, (a freaking mountain, who am i kidding). Every step felt like a fire burning my feet and making my backpack extra heavy.
Hearing the sound of the waterfalls must have been the reason why i kept going. I knew I wanted to see that waterfalls. (Im obsessed with waterfalls). Hearing the stream also means I’m getting near the camp.
HALLELUJAH!
And just like that, all the tiredness in my body was instantly gone.
The water took away all the physical pain and emotional stress i had during the trek. SWIMMING TIME.
After a few hours of leisure, we still needed to actually get to the camp side. And we decided to go up through the waterfalls. Coz you know, aside from it being very dangerous and life threatening, it’s fun. So push.
Our view from the almost top of the falls.
I just couldn’t believe we actually climbed that.
Look what we found at the almost top...
Fresher water and beautiful landscape.
We finally got to the camp side at night. When it was dark, so we immediately set up camp. Eat, drink, and some socials. Such is the way of camping in the mountain. Plus you get to meet nice people.
Overall, I would recommend climbing a mountain. It will be a great experience for you and your friends.
Why not Maranat
While everyone’s busy food and field tripping in Binondo during the Chinese New Year (19 Feb 15), my friends and I went on a dayhike in Maranat. If you’ve read my previous blog post, you prolly already know that I’ve been only in Maranat once, exactly a month ago. The trail is a bit confusing and it was my first time to be the lead but I think I did great though. (Hahaha)
The original plan is to meet up around 6 am at Tungko Jollibee to start our trek early but because we are pinoy, we met an hour late. With me on the lead, we started around 8:30 am at Licao-licao looking oh so fresh and fab (so gay haha)
We were only four in our group, two of which are first time hikers. Maranat’s trail is easy thus making it very suitable for beginners, though sometimes you still need to give them a little push and throw in some words of encouragement to continue.
The weather is better compared last time. It was not that sunny, in fact it was drizzling in some parts.
We reached the river at around 12 nn just in time for lunch and a little rest before going up to Tatay Nestor's place and venturing out the falls.
#selfeet
It was a surprise to see another friend at the river. Too bad she doesn't want to go any further to see the falls.
Grateful to have reached Tatay Nestor's nipa hut with my friends unscathed, we again rested a bit. We asked for guides who can accompany us to the falls.
The beautiful Maranat falls, I can say, is not the only reason why a lot of mountaineers go back to the place, but I think the friendly and very accommodating treatment of Tatay Nestor and his family.
It's a waste not to take a dip at the refreshing cold water. But like what I always tell my friends, we have to take responsibility of our own trash so as not to destroy the cleanliness of the river.
It was a tiring but fun adventure, I hope to climb with them again soon :)
Here’s a tribute to our tired but accomplished feet :)
New Year, New Climb. An Overnight Trip to Maranat Falls
Just a month after my first climb (last December), my friends and I planned our next one to welcome the new year. There were a few names that came up - Mt. Batulao, Nagsasa Cove, etc. - but we finally decided on Maranat Falls for our next trip.
For some weird reason, our climbs always turn out to become rather eventful. But despite the chilly rain, wrong turns, and the incoming storm, we managed to get home safely.
Here are some information on the climb.
