Have you played Marathon 2: Durandal (1995)?
Yes
No
I watched someone play it
I've never heard of it

The original Marathon trilogy is an intense experience about exploring cramped quarters, using sound cues to be forewarned of impending danger, using offense as your only real defense, and getting high-end enemies teleported to your current location because you pissed off an AI. Which AI? Well, it probably wasn't Leela.
Marathon (2026) is, well. Reread that prior sentence and append "and also there are other players".
I can't express enough how pleased I am with the way Marathon (2026) has turned out. I thought it'd probably be good, I didn't think I'd be so immediately willing to treat Marathon, Marathon 2: Durandal, Marathon Infinity, and Marathon (2026) as cohesively in conversation with each other. It helps that Marathon (2026) appears to be leveraging Marathon Infinity's weirdness as a safeguard against messing anything up. Some of the old lore doesn't line up with the new game. That could be explained by retcons or treating the game as a reboot, but...
finished marathon 2 and i think i understand less about the series now than i did before
"From now on, things are going to go very badly for you. You've cost them too much."
What fun to watch you work. Berhnard was scared of you. He never dreamed of using you the way that I do.

Shitty Writing Tip: Include random references to Marathon in your writing, or better yet, imply they’re connected somehow
