Marbled orb weaver on the side of the shed.
So I'm walking my dog at a park and I see a large orb web where one of the support lines ends in a rolled up leaf. This is a common practice of the spotted (or Hentz) orb weaver, a sometimes very large but otherwise nondescript species. But I look into the leaf and see a flash of yellow. I grab the stem of a dead weed and use it to shift the leaf so I can get a better look, and not only does she not retreat further inside, but she scurries right out into the center of her web and sits there like she wants me to take her picture. And she isn't a spotted orb weaver at all; she's a marbled orb weaver, aka pumpkin spider (highly appropriate for October). And a friggin huge one at that. They're one of my favorite local spiders, and she's only the second one I've found since I've been doing macro photography.
Another beautiful morning courtesy of a Marbled Orb-Weaver spider
Day 30. A nice orange spider to match the season.
A beautiful boy!
I'm gonna move him tomorrow morning, he's sort of blocking our door.
Here's looking at you
