The Underachievers // The Mahdi
The Underachievers The Mahdi Indigoism (13) Marcasso Sample: "Billy Cobham - Heather"
The Underachievers - The Mahdi
I love this song (the whole mixtape is amazing actually), but this line really bugs me:
"That's why we don't bump your mixtape, only keeping good shit on replay/ That Marvin Gaye, little Coldplay, maybe Sade"
Coldplay? Really? Guys, come on. You're ruining it for me. Just because Gaye and Sade rhymes with -play, then... actually, just no. Stop. Don't. Nope. No... Thanks. All that said, one thing is the rap, which is great -- Coldplay reference aside -- a whole other thing is the production, which is amazing. Marcasso has taken the Billy Cobham sample used in Souls of Mischief's '93 'Til Infinity and flipped it to great effect. '93 'Til Infinity is an all-time fave and this production does a great job of paying homage (making assumptions here) to the Hieroglyphics classic while still sounding fresh and original.

His name is Marcasso, and he just produced a KILLER beat for the up and coming Brooklyn due The Underachievers.
