Picrew Here: TW for self harm scars in the scars section. Also you should totally tag me so I can see your ocs :)
My first instinct is to say that Marcela Tabris cannot be a romanceable companion because of how the Tabris origin shakes out: there’s no way she’s not getting executed for killing Vaughn. But Vaughn’s father is presumably as sadistic as his son if not more.
If the Warden meets Marcela as anything more than a body hanging in the alienage, it’ll be in the dungeon of the newly named Howe estate, in the same cell Vaughn is usually found in.
She’s missing her middle three fingers on her left hand, her left eye, and one of her ears. She will reveal that the previous Arl tortured her and forced her to watch the mass slaughter in the Alienage. Her execution was interrupted by Howe’s arrival. however, Howe is only waiting on her strength to return enough that she will be worth something when he sells her to Tevinter. She asks how Soris, Shianni, and Cyrion are doing and offers to help kill Loghain and Howe in return for her freedom. If accepted, she joins your party as an assassin instead of her usual ranger class.
Marcela wasn’t terribly mentally stable after failing to save Shianni and Nelaros. After weeks to months of torture, she’s even more withdrawn. Hardened would be the game appropriate word. It takes at least 1/3 approval (which taking her back to a saved Cyrion does get you, but you gotta take initiative on that one she won’t mention it herself) before she talks to you outside of mission business. The warden can engage her in discussions about weapons and surface level details she knows about the alienage. Anything else will garner one word relies. If the warden allowed the slavers to sacrifice the elves in the clinic, approval with her will be locked. She will tell the warden they will fight in single combat as soon as Loghain is dead. The warden may choose to fight her during that conversation. Otherwise, a cutscene to trigger the fight begins as soon as the Landsmeet ends. If Loghain was saved, she will tell him he is next before attacking the warden.
Not pressuring her to talk before she’s ready, being kind to elves and animals, and killing Denerim guards will gain approval, as will commissioning prosthetic fingers from Harren and Wade. As she is hardened, she will approve of killing the werewolves, agreeing with Zathrien, and of killing Connor, claiming he would have grown up to be just like Vaughn.
The wedding band from her fiancé Nelaros can be looted from the chest in Howe’s dungeon. Giving the ring to Marcela will boost her approval. She will whisper “thank you” before walking away, cradling it in her hands.
Sometimes, when initiating dialogue with her, she’ll say. “I don’t feel like talking. Tell me about you instead.”
As the warden gains more approval, Marcela will open up about:
- what Vaughn did to her (mutilation specifically to ensure she can never shoot archery again, taking the fingers she uses to draw the string and her dominant eye + the ear for spite).
- who she saw die and how (I’m thinking her best friend Nessa (girl who was leaving the alienage in the prologue) and a couple of the unnamed bridesmaids who she will name)
- Nelaros, if the ring has been returned. She will mention feeling resigned to an arranged marriage because she never found anything better. Here, a non-human warden of any gender can begin to flirt with her. She will be startled and ask for time to think. If the warden gets up to leave, she’ll say “I didn’t say you had to go”. If the warden sits in silence with her she will approve.
If the warden mentions talking with Wade about inventing a second prosthetic, one that will let her shoot her bow again, she will call them sweet and explain how depth perception works for even more approval.
Once Marcela’s approval is high enough, it will unlock her version of sera’s friendly/romantic roof time in camp: sitting in companionable silence next to the fire. A romanced Marcela can be held during this. She can also be found sitting with Barkspawn.
In the middle of their first kiss, Marcela will pull away from the warden and say she needs time alone. The next morning she will find the warden and kiss them fiercely before walking away. After that she can be asked for kisses.
If asked to spend the night together. She will respond with shock before pulling the warden into her tent. Then she glitches through the walls a lot lmao
Afterwards, Marcela will lay her head on the warden’s chest and cry. “I hadn’t cried in years before Vaughn took us. After I killed him, I held Shianni and we just cried. Then, in that prison, I couldn’t help it. I tried not to. Just wasting water. And now this.” She pauses to let the warden respond before speaking again: “I don’t think I know how to be happy.”
She will encourage a romanced Cousland to marry Alistair and enact reform. She is wary of Alistair but admits she trusts him more than Anora, especially when she goes rifling through that castle we never get to visit and finds records of Fiona jk jk unless?
Following their victory over the arch demon, Marcela will return to the alienage and invest all the gold she was awarded into improvements and fighting back against asshole nobles. It’s not perfect but it’s better than it was. (unless steps are taken to make her Bann of Denerim, or she’s allowed to move her family and friends into the Ferelden castle, where she becomes the landsmeet’s worst nightmare) If the Warden refuses to stay with her in Denerim, she will break things off, saying her family comes first, but tell them they are most welcome to visit any time.

:D Thank you for the tag, @the-cryptographer
@dykieran @contently-cringe @dick-hardboiled + anyone else who wants to, I am very curious about your ocs! Pleaseeee info dump to me
Ironically the ex mercenary radical over here with less crimes than my centrist af Hawke. She's a loudmouth but she tries to do right by people. If she didn't have power, she'd probably do more crime.
After all it's technically not a crime to not prevent a murder. Though it is probably treason since it was the Empress lmao. Briala takes the throne.
3. Prior to the prologue, who was the Warden's closest friend?
Marcela: Nessa is Marcela's closest friend! She's the elf woman whose shitty human landlord decided to sell their home for storage space, forcing them to leave for Ostagar. Nessa is part of the wedding party. She and Shianni set up a lot of the wedding preparations and help Marcela pick the least terrible wedding dress. Marcela invites Nessa to live with her father. She knows he will say yes because the two grew up playing together and were never overly fond of Nessa's parents, who believed even more strongly in gender roles than most of the parents of Marcela's peers.
4. Did the Warden have any romantic relationships before the game?
Marcela: Marcela briefly dated a guy in her alienage when she was a teenager. They split ways after he figured out that a) Marcela was fully combat trained and continued to practice archery. This is why Cyrion suggested not letting Nelaros know she was a rogue. And b) Marcela had no intention of being a housewife.
Later, she had a crush on a girl in her alienage who turned out to be straight and left the alienage for her arranged marriage. After that, Marcela didn't like to acknowledge romantic feelings.
Rosemary: The short answer is no. The long answer is that the fears that come with being a lesbian in the Circle were debilitating for Rosemary.
19. Who are the people in camp that the Warden is closest with and why?
Rosemary: Rosemary is closest to Leliana, Morrigan, and Wynne. She gravitates towards women more than men and especially mage women.
Leliana charmed Rosemary by sharing her curiosity for the world and telling her stories. Rosemary used stories to cope back in the Circle, but has quickly discovered that Leliana's voice is her favorite way to experience them. She falls in love with Leliana's wanderlust and compassion. Her favorite place around the campfire to be is with her head in Leliana's lap, listening to her stories and telling the stories of the books she read back in the Circle.
Morrigan and Rosemary have friction to start and to end, but the middle? In the middle they are best friends. Rosemary can't admit, even to herself, that she is jealous of Morrigan not growing up inside the Circle. She admires Morrigan's magic, her outspokenness, her quick wit. Morrigan respects her curiosity, if not her naivety. Rosemary begins to crack jokes with her and they end up becoming gossip buddies. Rosemary is very easy to make laugh, which causes her to also get on with Alistair very well, but Morrigan exploits the hell out of when she's roasting Alistair because Rosemary just can't help it. At first, Alistair hates it, but it diffuses some of the tension because when Alistair gets huffy and roasts Morrigan back, it becomes a game of "who can get Rosemary to break the hardest when she's supposed to be concentrating". Morrigan teaches her to be a shapeshifter and is so so proud of her for "overcoming her circle mindwashing" but it all starts moving too fast too quickly when Morrigan proposes the Dark Ritual, as Rosemary still very firmly believes the Archdemons are tevinter old gods who cannot be allowed to be reborn. It becomes an explosive fight they will both always regret.
Wynne and Rosemary gel very well at the start of their relationship, but as Rosemary begins to push back against Circle teachings, they start to argue more and more often. Rosemary will always have a soft spot for Wynne and Wynne for Rosemary, but Rosemary cannot bear to be what Wynne wants her to be. With Wynne's personal quest there is some healing on both sides when Wynne stops seeing her as Aneiren
I saw the bloody dress and couldn't resist Marcela on her wedding day! Followed by Marcela in clothes shianni didn't have to pick out for her:
Tagging @dick-hardboiled @dykieran @the-cryptographer @thewardenisonthecase and @vosquitransitis I know you all have heroines that get regularly covered in blood! No pressure of course, as always <3
