3 months after
Today it is already 3 months after a strong earthquake and tsunami tragedy happened in Japan. Many died and still some are yet to be found.
After March 11, 2011 there were some aftershock that was experienced. People in Japan, foreigners and Japanese seems to be calm ,despite of the fear that they have experienced last March 11.
there are things that I have observed that I believe Japanese should be proud of.
CALMNESS Though Japan normally experienced earthquake, March 11 earthquake was not ordinary for them yet they have maintained composure and calmness in treating the situation. many lost their properties and loved ones but they have maintained to observe grief and sorrow quietly.
THEIR DIGNITY Disciplined queues for water and groceries. Not a rough word or a crude gesture. No hoarding of supplies were done.
ARCHITECTURAL ABILITY Before March 11, quake there are earthquakes at different parts of the globe that has claimed more lives and properties . But in Japan with their Architecture buildings swayed and had cracks but didn't fall or collapse.
SELF-DISCIPLINE Realizing the situation people bought only what they needed for the present, so everybody could get something.
ORDERLINESS No reported looting in shops. Despite the long hours of traffic no honking and no overtaking on the roads. Just understanding.
THE SACRIFICE Several workers stayed back to pump seawater in the N-reactors. Knowing the possible after effect of being exposed to radiation how will they ever be repaid?
KINDNESS/ TENDERNESS Restaurants cut prices. An unguarded ATM is left alone. The strong cared for the weak. Some stores provided batteries and mineral water for free to consumers
THE TRAINING The old and the children, everyone knew exactly what to do. And they did just that.
THE MEDIA They showed magnificent restraint in the bulletins. No silly reporters. Only calm reportage.
HONESTY When the power went off in a store, people put things back on the shelves and left quietly. No one took advantage of the situation.
Known not to be a Christian country but Japanese has shown a lot during this tragedy. I was there when it happened and I am proud to say that My God has not deserted me during those tragic hours when we fear for our lives and have to walk 8 hours to be home. Much less communication lines unstable that we could no get in touch with our family . Prayer has kept us through those days. And I also pray that we learn from the japanese on how they face these type of problems .
