“I love you so much, I’m gonna let you kill me.”
AU: Kaylee is dying
He shook his head, tears falling dumbly from his eyes. There was no prose that could match the tremble in his hands, there was no storm caged within his chest. Oliver opened his mouth, trying desperately to pluck words to offer her-- shoulders caving when darkness smiled and whispered please.
They were supposed to be kids forever. This world was meant to be shaped in their image. Kaylee had once sworn from his little spot on top of the world that the meek would inherit the earth, but at this moment: it belonged to them. She was tired, so tired and he brushed a shiny track away from her freckled cheek-- she would have never wanted him to see her cry, he had never before. Kaylee was always the strong one, the one who picked them up by their shoulders and made them trudge on, no matter how much weight crushed down on her own.
Os should have been there and Oliver pressed a kiss to her cheek. “I love you, I love you,” he whispered, the only words that didn’t come choked, whispered over and over again as he passed her the bottle of pills she had asked for, one hand behind the back of her head as she swallowed them down.
“I’ve fallen from grace.”
“Haven’t we all?” Silas flopped dramatically into Dom’s bed, thick cushions swallowing up his body-- he fought valiantly to get his head above memory foam. It was with a disgruntled expression that he finally found the blonde’s face, the worry that had formerly creased it now smoothing into laughter, a hand reaching to tug him free. The red haired boy jolted back, making her tumble in beside her; curving his friend safe by his side.
“What’ve you done now? Can I vlog about it?”
“Another drink just to pass the time.”
Skye’s lips split into a smile and she lifted her head from the surface of the Dean’s desk. “Just one more,” she promised, already fumbling clumsily for the top shelf Appleton Estate. They were greedy little things, clasping too much of the world with their open palms, stuffing the bits of it that were already gifted to them into their pockets and purses-- tonight they topped off full stomachs with freedoms that were stolen, swollen with rum as they giggled in the office of the most important man on campus.
“Let’s be like this forever,” the blonder of the two pressed, the words searing heavier than anything they’d said tonight. She washed it down, letting the syllables burn with the alcohol. “Never grow old, never grow apart.”
And Kaylee, bearing the Cheshire Cat’s many toothed smile, reached for the bottle and drank to it.
“Don’t let them talk to you that way.”
”I’m not letting anyone do anything,” Jack grinned, his eyes were lit like a couple of candles on a cake. He was already hastily unbuttoning his blazer. His fingers were just barely shaking. Sometimes he got like that before he kicked someone’s ass, like an addict reaching for his next fix. He could blame that on the cold, too. Or, of course, the rage rattling around beneath his skin–even the twister swirling around in his veins; a masochist’s heroin. His blazer fell soundlessly to the ground and by the time it settled, Jack was already throwing his first punch.
