MARCH MADNESS MARATHON March 7: EUREKA SEVEN HE LIKES THAT GIRL SO MUCH! 💘💓 Y’all can have your badass Ichigo from Bleach Johnny Yong Bosch or your Lelouch from Code Geass Johnny Yong Bosch, Renton Thurston is my favourite performance by him. He’s such a good boy. He just wants the girl to like him and be a part of the gang and drive his sky surfing robot. He’s like Tom Holland’s Spider-man. You just want good things for him. Unfortunately, this is a mecha anime, so ..... war and stuff. With mecha, they either end real sad or go FULL ANIME, which means ... things stop making sense. Either way, it’s a great coming of age story until it gets insane and I loved watching it every Friday on Bionix. MARCH MADNESS MARATHON Day 17: Tom King’s Batman Bruce Wayne realizes his life has been one big suicide attempt. These are his WORST DAYS. Batman: HUSH is the first Batman book I ever read. It’s the official beginning of Bruce Wayne’s relationship with Catwoman and this run doubles down on that relationship. This is a polarizing run, but it’s also one of my favourites. I don’t think Tom King is meant to write monthly comics. I feel like all his stuff works best when you have access to all of it. It’s probably why I liked it as much as I did. I read most of it in one sitting and had a blast. It’s the most emotionally vulnerable I have ever seen Batman written. It does this balancing act that I love where Bruce Wayne is both Batman AF and also the biggest dork in the world. I prefer my heroes with a slice of dork and a splash of trauma. You got this book to thank for the godsend that is the CW show Superman & Lois. MARCH MADNESS MARATHON Day 15: BATMAN: The Black Mirror DICK GRAYSON IS MY FAVORITE SUPERHERO OF ALL TIME. Dick Grayson is BETTER THAN Bruce Wayne. It’s for the same reason Miles Morales will grow up to be a better man than Peter Parker will ever be. Ask me about that next time you see me. Anyway, DICK GRAYSON IS BATMAN IN THIS COOL ASS DETECTIVE STORY. Some of my favorite Batman stories are from that time where he was dead. Don’t worry he got over it. Death in comics is like a cold in real life. Ya get over it. Dick takes over as Batman and does it HIS way, while solving a decade old mystery involving himself, the Gordon Family and a bunch of murders happening in Gotham. Scott Snyder writes this awesome and disturbing tale that basically got him the job to relaunch Batman and have one of the best Batman runs of all time. MARCH MADNESS MARATHON Floppy Week Day 14: Batwoman: Detective Comics Batwoman’s debut issues in Detective Comics after Bruce Wayne died are absolute masterworks. The writing by Greg Rucka is top notch and the art is BEYOND beautiful. The first two arcs following the adventures of Kate Kane are fan-freaking-tastic and if you can find them then definitely pick them up. Ignore the show, this is one of my favorite characters and one of the LGBT+ characters to get her own series at DC Comics that never steers away from her sexuality and treats the character with the respect she intensely deserves. MARCH MADNESS MARATHON Floppy Week Day 13: Adventures of Superman These next couple are a bit tough. Superman successfully roasts the Joker for being lame. The End. It’s a perfect Superman short story written by no one. It’s so weird that no one wrote this comic. If someone had written this comic, they’d probably be one of my favorite creators. Too bad. MARCH MADNESS MARATHON Floppy Week! Day 10: Brian Michael Bendis’ UNCANNY X-MEN Scott Summers is my favourite X-Man. Which if all you know is the Fox X-Men movies is a controversial statement. Hell, even if you read comics it’s a controversial statement, but it’s true. There’s just something I love about him. And luckily, when I started reading comics, Cyclops kept getting more interesting from starting a relationship with Emma Frost, running the school, turning the X-Men into an army, forming a mutant nation, getting Magneto to join him, murders Charles Xavier and being one of the deadliest foes the Avengers has ever faced. And then, we get this Uncanny X-Men run where him and his ragtag team are public enemies and getting ready because the war between humans and Mutants is coming ... and Scott, Emma Frost and Magneto are leading the charge. This is the book where Cyclop basically says “you don’t care about black people” to Captain America regarding Mutants. And he’s right. They don’t. Bendis writes Scott Summers at his most interesting and most dangerous. He’s been branded a terrorist ... and he’s using it and I’m living for it. MARCH MADNESS MARATHON Floppy Week Day 9: Batgirl of Burnside It’s Kim Possible meets Veronica Mars with a splash of Bat Family. Barbara Gordon has definitely been cooler, but she has never been more fun than here. It’s also the debut of the easily cosplayable Burnside costume. Not to mention this run features DC Comic’s first gay/trans wedding.
