Characters A & B were born into a world full of magic. Character A was the son of a farmer and Character B was the son of a blacksmith. At just eight years old, they became best friends. Against his anti-magic father’s wishes, Character A became the apprentice to a very powerful mage when he was twelve. As the mage’s age progressed and his list of enemies did not shrink, he sensed his own death was approaching. To protect his apprentice (who still had much to learn), the mage gave him a pendant. When Character A put it on, it seemed to melt into his body -- invisible, although he could still grip it through his shirt. It would protect him, the mage had told him -- before his death at the hands of a ruthless elven queen. Under this warm protection, Character A found himself on many an adventure, but did not discover the true nature of this pendant until his own untimely death. He succumbed to the elements after becoming lost in an unfamiliar forest, only for his soul to awaken within a ‘root’ plane with many worlds around him. Character B never ventured far from the forge, although his curiosity had his mind traveling well beyond the clouds. He was kidnapped from a nomadic tribe as a young boy by slavers, but rescued by a blacksmith and his wife who could not conceive. They raised him from the age of eight, and he became fast friends with Character A. At the cusp of their sexual maturity their friendship turned desperate and deep, though neither dared express feelings beyond an embrace or gentle teasing. When he is told of Character A’s power, he trusts him. With the knowledge comes many questions, including ‘Can I come with you?’Character A is unaware that the pendant can only be truly removed in an act of selflessness, and Character A’s desires to keep Character B close are far more selfish. He ends up splitting the pendant, and with it goes part of his soul. Character A and Character B now have the ability to travel across worlds and dimensions together. Character B finds himself feeling strong in Character A’s presence, while Character A becomes weak when the two of them are separated -- as half of his soul goes with him. On these adventures their relationship will flourish, from romance to angst and beyond.
